Now that I've stopped laughing, I'll go with the Swiss Tool.If that breaks from holding up a small pot of water, then I'd go with an I- beam and heavy chain:D :D :D (this threads killing me)

The SwissTool, like most things 'Swiss Made', may, and I carefully say 'may', ultimately be the 'better' tool in the lot, but...

I've got a work neighbor/cubicle resider that is a true 'knut' for these things (actually, it's his brother, the one that sends him about two multitools a month, and has for the last year or so {I'm not making this up btw}; he, [my neighbor] proudly shows me 'all' of them, as they arrive, on an almost daily basis it would seem, though he doen't ever use them...), and as such I've had a chance to at least 'see' most of them...

In fact, I musta seen just about every damn multitool out there to date, and that said, I'll stick with my Swiss Army 'Tinker', Leatherman 'Wave', and the accompanying Leatherman 'Squirt' P4, as they just can't be beat...IMNSHO ;)

Is the 'Swiss Tool' better? Possibly, but is it also huge, heavy, and crude? Based on my observations, yes...

YMMV,

Mel

-edited to add- Just purchased 3 more Leatherman tools from the Leatherman store at: http://www.leathermanstore.com/index.html

Just putting my money where my mouth is... ;)

I forgot to mention the Victorinox Tinker when I made my list earlier. I always think of it as a Knife first and a Multi-Tool second, but it counts, too!

Melvin,

Of course you're entitled to your opinion on this and any subject, but I'm not sure you're talking about the same SwissTool if you think it is "crude".

Whether someone likes the SwissTool or not, it is probably the most finely finished and most refined Multi-Tool out there. In fact one of the few complaints anyone EVER makes about it is that they polished it TOO MUCH and rounded off the corners on the flat head screwdrivers!

I have owned 3 Waves in 2 weeks because the first one I got was VERY loose and wobbly, and had a lot of sharp edges. I sent it back and they replaced it with another one which was just as wobbly, but slightly less sharp, so I sent THAT one back and they replaced it with one that was slightly less wobbly and not sharp at all. Basically they told me that that was the way they were supposed to be. The CS dept was VERY nice, but I just couldn't warm up to the wave.

The SwissTool's not for everybody (I guess...), but I think that the only reasons why it wouldn't work for someone are maybe different needs/preferences re: tool selection, need for a smaller 'pocket' tool (like a Juice), need for a 'pointier' plier head.

I did a comparison of the SwissTool and Wave a while ago here if anyone's interested:

Sometimes it seems that us knuts seems to have stronger opinions about Multi-Tools than we do about knives!!!

Original Leatheman PST. I've tried the Swiss Tool, the Gerber and most of the different Leathermans. I keep returning to the PST because it's small and light so I don't even notice that it's there. Coupled with a Victorinox Executive or Classic, the PST gives me all the tools I need.

definitely a leatherman wave...

my brother is the one that weened me over to fixed blades and folders, otherwise i would have been perfectly satisfied with only carrying the wave.

for in town carry, it does everything i need it to do and more.

as far as it being to heavy, in my case, thats because i carry a fixed blade on the right (busse pd, soon to be ad-tac), a letherman wave next to it,and a photon microlight on paracord next to that, on the belt loop is a pocket watch and in my right back pocket is my keys,

on the otherside of my pants is a folder (806d2, though id prefer a strider mcsocom :) ), a benchmade rescue tool (round seat belt cutter) and a wallet that has a chain on it (dog choke collar), quite a few cards and a tool logic multi use card knife.

so ya... that leatherman wave is enough to make my hips hurt from the belt bearin down on them... that thing is like an anvil...

Post a pic in this thread, if you can. :)

Pete

[edit: unless you already did, that thread's a little tough to keep track of]

Leatherman JuicePro or the Wave. I actually use the JuicePro all the time, it's small and has just about anything you need. If you can't get it done with that, you probably need a "real" tool!
