I'm reading Murray Carter's book 101 Knife Designs: Practical Knives For Daily Use.

In it, Carter makes constant reference to a "neck knife", but he never explains what a neck knife is.

So what is a neck knife?

What he usually wears around his neck in his YouTube videos. Discrete and convenient access.

Thanks!

I didn't realize he did video!

P.S. is that a revolver? He didn't learn to carry firearms in Japan!

There are plenty of examples of neck knives.

I don't mean to be the "use the search function" guy, but it's a fairly basic term and even just putting in a Google search for "neck knife" will give you plenty of options and information. Do some research and you'll see there are plenty of knives, and plenty of opinions.

Why do you suppose neck knives are just about the only thing he writes or talks about. Clearly he was trained to make all sorts of blades.

Perhaps he figures the size and shape of the neck knife to be the most practical and utilitarian.

In terms of every day carryable knives the folder is usually considered king. Unless you want to carry a fixed blade, then the next best option is a small belt knife orrrrrrrrr....

A neck knife. Neck knives are just supremely handy.

J Jammer Six : Grab a Carter necker and let us know how it goes. I will eventually pick one up (along with a Compact FS1), but with either carbon fiber or micarta scales (will likely require a custom order).

Murray makes all sorts of knives from neck to tactical to a lot of different types of Japanese kitchen knives, the one thing they have in common is he does a great job whatever style knife he is making. John
