So we've been showing off our murses and our edc bags and I was thinking why not put out a challenge to you all. Moose did a similar challenge in august with very little, but I figured we should do it with what we each carry regularly, and have for emergency. And since a few people say that their bags hardly get used well here ya go.

I feel confident that the gear I carry with me everyday, since I'm paranoid, can get me through a night or two if need be. What about you? Do you really feel comfortable if you, for some reason or another, were stuck in the woods that what you got will be enough? I felt like I wanted to challenge myself, so I got the permission from the wife and I'm going to do a solo overnighter with the clothes on my back and what's in my edc. Nothing else. No pillows or sleeping bags, no tarps or hammocks, no coolers of food and drink. Just me and a pack that Ive been telling myself is enough.

So my challenge to you guys is do the same thing. Grab your edc's and murses and go. See if they really do cut it, and also what you can cut /add for the time when it isn't a drill. If you haven't already, post up a pic and info about what you got here in guyons murse-o-thon

Then let us know how it went. Its not a contest since I don't got anything to give away right now. But you will gain knowledge on just how well you can use limited resources. Since its not a contest there aren't any rules per say, but use it ad a learning experience.

I will be taking a bottle of water since I always have one, and the emergency food I keep packed always and I will be dressing for the weather and that's about it. Nothing else will be added or removed from my pack or pockets and the blade will be my edc bk10 and my Vic farmer. So who wants to give it a go? Maybe ill find something to giveaway in the mean time. And this isn't just for beckerheads, but it is the Becker forum so I hope you got a Becker on you somewhere.

Couldn't of waited til Spring Huh?......I will see what I can do since my EDC/ MURSE is adjusted for the season.......May combine this with a next day deer hunt in Western Md....BRRRRRRRRRR! LOL

Then it wouldn't be a challenge :D. 75 degrees and sunny in the woods is like vacation.

I would have loved to have had half the stuff I usually carry in mine during the August Challenge. Specifically the tarp. That alone was would have saved an immense amount of hassle. Also, some tea or coffee would have been great. Don't get me wrong, chicken stock cubes in the morning make for a fine drink, but it would have been nice to have something with some caffeine.

What's definition of murse. EDC? shoulder bag, etc.? The Typhoon is same size as a daypack. Not the same as a Jumbo etc.

Just asking. Thanks!

Anything you carry daily. My pack, the monsoon, is as big as a school back pack but I carry it everyday. If you carry and assault pack that can hold 5 days worth of gear, thats fine. The idea is how would you fair with what you pack when your NOT planning on an overnighter.

This challenge can be downright deadly for the inexperienced. Even with the skills I have I wouldn't be out practicing minimalist camping in this weather. Maybe you guys are having an okay time weather wise but 30mph gusts in 35 degree weather with constant downpoor is NOT the time for practicing minimalist survival. Hopefully these challenges don't open you guys up for liability. The assumption is that everyone who chooses to do this is responsible for their own actions but in an age where a company can be sued for not warning their customers that hot coffee is indeed hot, one never knows. Challenges like this really should be done in 75 degree weather. The goal should be aquiring skills and not how much you can endure. My $0.02.

Thats a valid point. For those that dont feel comfortable with you skills, please either dont do it or have an egress plan and know your limits. And of course what you do is at your own risk. For me, I will be using this as a way to test my skills and being in the cold (around 40 here) what better way to prepare then to know what you can do in the cold because you will then excel in the warm weather. Ill be dressed appropriately for the weather of course, just wont have extras like a sleeping bag or blanket (i do have an emergency blanket in my murse) Worst comes to worse and it gets too cold wel i can either leave or curl up next to the fire. This wasnt meant as a survival challenge for those with limited skills, it is focused at those with the skills, would what you pack on the regular be enough to hold you over overnight.

Honestly I carry a tarp and 100'+ of cord. Then I also have my survival blanket and my Beckerhead water bottle. I use to carry my hammock but for some reason I stopped. Ask Flexxxy he'll vouch for me on that. Maybe I'll toss it back in there.

I did this last year oct. 2010. used my maxpad versa pak. slept in my carheart pants, combat boots and North Face fleece. slept right next to the fire on top of a contractor trash bag using my versapak as a pillow. Woke up with the conttractor bag on fire and freezing my ass off. The Capt. can verify this. I won't do it again.

Dude, it's cold and wet outside. I mainly use my murse for trips to Abercrombie & Fitch. :D

I carry a 5.11 Rush 72 with my usual loadout, and in that bag, it looks empty. Really it does. I carry my pack with me everywhere, ask anyone that knows me or has hung out with me.

I'm good to go, even in this weather. Not in the dead of winter, but for a few more weeks, I'm good.

Here it is before I went on a trip, this is my Maxped Condor, but I've just changed wrappers, not innards.

I added the sleeping bag, as I usually do when I'm headin' out for a woodland trip.

You carry a tarp in you murse?

Yeah dude. One of those equinox ones. 10'x10' urethane coated nylon rolls up to about the size of a nalgene. Also a hammock, which is about half that size, maybe two thirds of that size?

You want to make this interesting limit it to a cubic inch size of bag. A 5,000 cubic inch pack is not EDC unless you area Sherpa. :)

Depends I go everywhere in a Suburban it holds all sorts of things :)
