Murse/edc challenge

You want to make this interesting limit it to a cubic inch size of bag. A 5,000 cubic inch pack is not EDC unless you area Sherpa. :)

Well it's not a contest or I would put a limit on it. More of a a challenge to see if what you take with you daily would be enough in case of a real emergency. More of an eye opener. If you are a Sherpa more power to ya :D

my problem is I have my EDC stuff which has nothing for the outdoors and then anytime I head out into the 'wild' I have my camelback for the woods with a bit of equipment if something should happen in the wilderness. I suppose if I just threw a lighter in my pocket and dressed for the weather I'd probably make it through the night if for some reason I didn't grab my gear before trekking off into the forest. I do have the stuff to put together a murse so maybe I'll get that done in the next couple days. my CS rajah II is a handy little bugger but if I'm gearing up I'd grab a fixed blade so a murse/emergency woods kit seems like a good place for it.

You carry a tarp in you murse?

check out the hennessey hammock hex fly made with sil-nylon, i think that compacts down to about the size of a walnut :)

okay, a potato. wow. weighs nothing, and has 6 connection points. fairly versatile.

wasn't me, but i see no reason why it should be locked, or an every reason why it should be unlocked

I EDC an ultra tactical OGIO messenger bag. It contains the following:

Heat Source (Laptop): Asus U31 w/10hrs battery life (means I can keep the charger at home, and pack around less weight)

Kindling: Aka, stray homework, assignments and tests that I would more than gladly burn to get a fire started. Or just to burn them actually, doesn't matter why.

Water: My Nalgene bottle. I carry it empty, and fill it up before class so I have something to help keep me awake.

Food: My lunch, so I don't die at work. Its generally some tactical PB sandwiches that keep me going.

Extra clothing: I carry a super stealthy beanie around with me, in case I encounter some bad weather on the 10-15 minute walk home every night. Naturally, its black, and devoid of any marking (so I can't be identified of course).

Sanitation: Some hand cleaner a recruiter gave me, so then I could clean my hands after shaking his hand.

Self defense: I carry a pen. I saw the bourne movies, its now forever a weapon in my mind. That said, it hardly gets used. All my schoolwork is on computers :).

Headphones: Used to successfully ignore the weird breathing patterns of the other people that share my office at work. Works great.

So... yea, I'm a student, but this really is what I carry each day. I also EDC a gerber paraframe, because thats basically the only folder I have. Its pretty sweet, it looses an edge cutting paper, which means I get to practice my sharpening skills :). That said... this setup for SURE works for me day in and day out. In the crazy world of the business school, I've always got what I need, and my pack is way lighter than most peoples bags, which means I feel like I am winning for some reason.

Oh wait... you probably meant going out in the WOODS... Oh, I can't help there.

:)

I did this last year oct. 2010. used my maxpad versa pak. slept in my carheart pants, combat boots and North Face fleece. slept right next to the fire on top of a contractor trash bag using my versapak as a pillow. Woke up with the conttractor bag on fire and freezing my ass off. The Capt. can verify this. I won't do it again.

I will never forget that night!!! Man it was cold! I wanted to lay IN the fire so badly....

I have enough to get through a night, but don't see a lot of benefit in practicing being miserable.

The main things my EDC / car bag do not have that would increase comfort are a big tarp, more cord, a good saw and a sleeping bag.
