To my knowlege, my family hasn't been Jewish for about a thousand years, but then I wouldn't put much past them.
Bill, Howard, Dave, if you'll take a look at a book by Arthur Koestler, you'll find a very direct connection between the crown jewels and the family jewels.
About the 4th or 5th century, the Magyars moved into the Black Sea area above Turkey ( Georgia, Armenia ) encountered a tribe of Jewish gold/silver smiths, and converted to Judaism ( talk about a bris enmass! ). A couple centuries later, they picked up and moved to the Hungarian Steppes.
Then in the 11th century, Prince Stephen was persuaded to convert to Christianity, and in return for the conversion of himself and his whole country, the Pope gave him a set of crown jewels ( Crown, Scepter, etc ) that are still national treasures. So that is the link between the Crown jewels and the family jewels.
