Maybe the topic fits better in Community, but I guess here it´s more likely to find the right answers.
I´m a big fan of John Denvers music. Unfortunately he´s not among us anymore.
Is there a good alternative songwriter / musician?
Regards from Switzerland,
Markus

The very early years of Jimmy Buffett is folksy/country and reminds me of some of John Denvers music. One song in particular, "mile high in Denver", reminds me alot of John Denver. Jimmy Buffetts later years are more tropical/island themed.

Don Edwards is a traditional "Western" singer as opposed to "Country and Western"

If you saw the movie "GrizzlyMan" his song "Coyotes" was used in it. That got me really appreciating his music more.

John Denver as a guy who sings and plays guitar, here are some similar artists: Jim Croce, Gordon Lightfoot, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Johnny Cash, James Taylor.

John Denver's songs often involved the West and Nature. Here are a couple of local artists that have songs with similar themes: These aren't anything like modern Pop-Country-Western, more like plain old Western that is rare nowadays.

Oh, to lie back and watch the Leonids or Geminids and to listen to the cool, soothing sounds of the First Four Black Sabbath albums...they destroyed Bakersfield, California, once...you know? :D

For some traditional folk music about walking the wilderness check out Walkin' Jim Stoltz. My boys get a kick out of his kids CDs but his other stuff is pretty good too. I also appreciate an artist who walks the walk...literally.
