Here is some of the nicest musk ox horn I've been able to get. It had been off of the animal for a couple of years so it is well cured. It is still best to let it acclimate to your area for a little while, some makers will hold them a year. I am happy to answer any questions about the stuff or working with it. It is guaranteed to be legal and naturally colored. Happiness is guaranteed, if you find you can't use it when you get it in your hands, return it for your purchase price back, please do that within seven days. I take all the normal forms of payment, Paypal, checks, or credit cards over the phone. The prices shown will be plus shipping and insurance, I ship using USPS flat rate shipping where I can, I ship anywhere it is legal and charge only the actual shipping charges. You may PM me, email me or call me on the phone (though sometimes I have loud machines running and can't hear it).

*NOTE - These scales will be pretty flat when they leave here. If they cup in transit, or sometime after you get them, put them in your oven set to 300 degrees and watch very closely checking them often. When they become flexible, clamp them flat between pieces of wood to cool.

Spend $1,000.00 and receive an automatic 15% discount.

Prices shown are for the pair.

Hey Mark, never worked with this stuff, I like it, but I'm concerned about stability. Right now in my shop it's so dry that even stag I've had for years will warp, let alone ivory.

Compared to something like sheep horn or elk, how bad is this stuff for moving? Can I protect it from doing so after gluing up on thin liners?

I would say that it is most like sheep horn than anything, it is horn. You don't want to work it warm and you want to keep it dry. I would say that if you are having problems with stag moving you would have problems with almost any natural material. How do you heat the shop? If you are heating with wood, that will dry things out a bunch, put a pan of water on the wood stove. I would try some kind of humidifier in there if you are using another kind of heat. If you use, or want to use mostly man-mades then no problem, however if you like the natural materials like I do then you will need to do something. We have indoor humidity of about 8% here in Fairbanks and I don't have problems with natural materials if precautions are taken. Just let material acclimate to your area before you use it. Working cool and dry, use paste wax on it when you are done and things should be fine.

Yeah that's what I'm doing so far. Mostly I have a problem if I cut material for scales right before it gets real cold, and then the humidity drops before I finish the knife and things start warping. Usually I can wrap it in a wet paper towel for a while, get it back to straight and then wax it up.

Thanks for the reply, I'll get up with you to try some of this soon.

Hey Mark, I Am making a few desk knives. I think #15 for stands. Do you think OK? If so, send. Are you going to OKCA in April?

Yes, those would be great for stand, good idea. I will put you down for them. No I will not be going to OKCA, I have way to much to do before June, I am testing for journeyman smith.
