Muskrat Love

Nice "Westinghouse" collection from Ken, Elliot!!

Ken made me this single-spring 'Rat, modeled after a broken Remington I had!!

Charlie, the Improved Muskrat I posted above is a single spring as well. The liners may make it look otherwise in the image...but it's only the one.

Just stunning. Is he retired from knifemaking?
He's never officially told me he's done, and I know he's built knives, (at least a fixed blade), to support a conservation organization recently...but I won't ask him unless he says something to me about it one way or another.

He made you a beautiful knife, Elliott!!
Ken also sounds like a busy guy!!! Please wish him the best for me, when you speak again!
He is a gentleman and a scholar!!
I also enjoy your presence here, Elliott! I hope you show us more of the great knives you have collected!!

Thank you, Charlie, and I always send him the best wishes of those who know and love him here.

I appreciate the kind words.

I'm usually too lazy to take pix...which is half the battle, and the ones I take, as opposed to those taken by others of knives I own, are generally wanting.

I'll try to do better...at least some of the time. LOL.

Tina says hi.

The duplicate blades never caught my fancy, but I fell pretty hard for the RR Improved Muskrat, with one slender California clip, and a long, slim sheepsfoot/wharncliffe blade, in smooth tobacco bone. It was my most frequent carry for a couple of years. The straight edge was my primary blade. I gave a couple as gifts, and bought a spare in case they ever stopped making them.

The spare turned out to be a pretty good idea, because I don’t think RR has made an improved muskrat for a few years now. Case called its version of the pattern the Hawbaker. I have never seen one live. I guess they are pretty thin on the ground now, too, and pretty spendy. Until I come across one at a price I like, I will be okay with my $8.00 version.

Someone on the forum (can't remember who... old age, and all that) modified a Case muskrat into what he called a "Ratcliffe"..... I liked it so much, I did one myself...

Then I found this Queen improved muskrat, which is a definite improvement, IMHO, over the same two blades of a regular muskrat....

Not sure how I messed up my original post on my own topic, but... I intended to include this with my group picture, but I sometimes forget about it since it's so much different from the others. So, actually I have six muskrats, this one being my only S&M and a Hawbaker style.

It bugged me, so I researched it... the member that created the "Ratcliffe" was Lansky..... don't know if he's still around..?

The Buck 313 Muskrat offered two different blade styles in the frame yet they nested as low as any Muskrat knife I can remember. Built by Camillus for Buck on the same serpentine frame as Buck Knives 301 Stockman (and other similar 4" Premium Stockman knives), the 313 sure carries smaller in the pocket due to the very low blade nesting. For carry I prefer a Muskrat with two blade styles over a Muskrat with two identical blades. On the bottom is the Northwoods (Queen) version of the Hawbaker Muskrat style. OH
Ps. Lansky hangs out over at AAPK on a regular basis.

Sure are some pretty knives posted here. I confess the Muskrat pattern never grabbed me, but once I discovered the possibility of modding one into a ratcliffe/improved muskrat, my eyes really opened (and I like your results, Drew/hornetguy). A while back I put up a thread about my attempt at it: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/muskrat-morph.1650164/#post-18874675
