Muskrat

Very impressive single spring job.Is this a particularly tricky pattern to make?

Interesting, and very cool. Did you "krink" the blades? And what's the overall handle thickness?

What's a 'catch bit'?

Thanks for all the kind comments on this one!

The overall thickness on this knife is .475 while the Remington measured .470

No krinking necessary when using catch bits. The blades are ground "offset".

Without going into a detailed explanation in this thread a catch bit is basically a spacer between the tang and frame allowing the full length opposing blade tip to rest between the tang and frame. I believe there has been threads in this sub-forum detailing catch bits.

I know you are not presently taking orders, but when you do, you can count me in for one of these! Very nice.

That thing is amazing. May I ask, do you have a waiting period for knives like this?

Thanks! :)

Thanks again for the comments on this knife. It was a difficult knife in that the blades are thin, catch bits and a single common spring.

(I am not taking orders at this time and would be happy to discuss by PM as to not infringe on the traditional forum guidelines)

Just beautiful and as clean as they come from the inside, the blades, right down to the pulls. Great looking knife Ken.

ken the bone has that great old timey look.
i.m.o. the single backspring rat is one of the most difficult to make
used to wonder if our custom makers would ever be able to match the old makers.
looks like you have hit that zenith [" give me that ole time religion"]
thanks man you brightened a dreary weekend.

Ken - thanks for the clarification & specs.

That's what I love about the Traditional Forum. Seems like every thread brings up something new that I (and others, I'm sure) didn't know.

thx - cpr

I apologize for that post. I didn't even think about the fact that it would seem like I wanted one.

I was actually meaning it as a compliment as in "I bet he has a loooong waiting list with something that beautiful". Honestly, I cannot afford a custom slippie so I wasn't inquiring.

Regardless I'll watch how I type from now on.

Again, sorry about that.

All of Ken's knives are up there with the world's best, in my opinion. I have a folder on my computer of every image of every knife I could find, made by Ken. It is probably the closest I'll ever come to getting a real one.

i posted yesterday, had to come back cause i could'nt get your rat out of my head. if i get crazier or a bunch of extra cash this is custom folder i would order over everything i've seen.i hope you guys understand how far you've came since the 70s.thanks for a ray of sunshine.

Amazing doesn't begin to describe it! The blade grinds, the bone, everything looks so good!

Will you just look at that jigging and color? Oh, baby!

You don't even have to like the Muskrat pattern to be a BIG fan of this knife.
Just an incredible looking knife!
