"Must Have" blades!!!

Like most here, the "must haves" are in the mind of the beholder and the person shelling out the money for the blade. I prefer Condor machetes over Ontario even though I own Ontario's also. My woods chopper is currently the Condor Pack Golok as I am mostly chopping stuff more resistant to the cut than grass.

When I first began to get interested in fixed blades, I bought an EK Comando bowie type knife as my first "survival knife". I thought it cool and still do. But I don't use it... Then came a custom. Then came Randall's. I look back and I can't think of any must haves for me other than a Victorinox SAK or maybe a Case slipjoint folder. The Case "slipjoint" has evolved into a GEC manufactured slipjoint or five.

For those peeps that questioned why I picked the Ontario 18" Machete...it's because its Americana! I have one it's great.

There was a story about how my grandfather (retired US Navy) got these huge scars on his shins and the story is he got them from using a machete to scrape leeches off during WW2 in the Philippines during guerrilla warfare against the Japanese. There's more to the story but I can't remember right now. I wonder if it was an Ontario.

Small keychain SAK. Everyone should have one--goes double for the folks who like to open packages with their keys...

I view the traditional USMC Kabar as a knife not well suited for much of anything particularly. If I owned one, it would probably be in my tool box and probably would end up rusty. I find them in houses sometimes I clean out and pretty much toss them in the trash. I did find a USA made Schrade once and I kept that one.

There are some must-haves in my EDC rotation, and the remainder are on my wish list.

There are a lot of iconic knives that a person should consider owning- a Loveless style hunter, a bowie, a Randall-style, a Spyderco Delica/Para2/Military, whatever Benchmade assisted knife you like, ...

of course it is difficult to find even a single must-have that every knife enthusiast should own because of everyone's different tastes.

No such thing as a "must have" for everyone. I would never want a machete, I have no need for such a thing at all in my life. I'm sure for plenty of people it would be an incredibly useful tool, but not for me. I think the answer was already given - the only 'must have' knife is a basic kitchen knife unless you never, ever need to cook or open anything.
