"Must Have" folders

I bought a small sebenza a month or so ago. It's been my EDC since I got. I had hoped it would slow me down on buying knives, but it hasn't -- I've purchased a Spyderco Mouse and a MicroTech M-UDT (anopeen, with the krayton insert).

I'm not as impressed with the Microtech as I thought I'd be (I love my mini-socom). I'm thinking if the Microtech doesn't do it for me, what will?

What do you consider a "must have" folder. Either for a collection or EDC. What knife is "it" for you?

I'm thinking a Sebenza auto conversion would be pretty cool (like the Buck 110 conversion), but other than that I'm at a bit of a loss. Nothing else (I can afford) really grabs me.

Mike, General...

I would dearly love to have any of Tim Hermanns knives, in particular a Sliver.

(Mr.Rogers voice here..) Can you say craftsmanship? Can you say artist? That's good. I knew that you could...

Guess it would be the 2 I have on order. Of course every one I get is a "must have"! I just received a must have today;

Bob Dozier Buckhunter. Awesome knife

Two on order that are must haves;

Darrel Ralph 4" MADD MAXX
Darrel Ralph 4" EDC

Definate must have's!

I'll echo Easyriders' selections:
REKAT Sifu, Pioneer II, and Carnivore Cub.

I currently own a Sifu (stonewashed ATS-34, black G-10 scales, full finger-grooves), and I have both a Pioneer II and a "Cub" on the way to me from trades I've made here at BF.

The Sifu is my EDC folder, and the Pioneer II will soon be my "other" EDC carry folder. (I ALWAYS carry at least 2 knives.).

BTW...For those of you "keeping track"...YES, these REKAT knives HAVE replaced the Cold Steel folders that I have carried for a long time, as I like REKATs' quality, "feel", and toughness better.

Sigh (from relief)
I thought you've been abducted and replaced by someone else there for a second glockman. Hmmmmm must have folders for edc:

Spyderco Delica
Cheap, available everywhere and handy this is my main blade of choice

Spyderco Mini-Dyad (micarta handle)
Way too smooth. Sheep don't mind it either.

Spyderco Military
For the times I venture out of the city or if I feel frisky. Replaced the old afck b/c i'm liking thinner blades now

Production:
- Spyderco Military in CPM 440V
- Microtech LCC
- Chris Reeve small sebenza

Custom (lets wax lyrical a bit here):
- Kit Carson Model 4 to remind me what a using folder and real craftsmanship is all about.
- Darrel Ralph EDC to remind me that artistry and function can indeed come together in the same knife.

For me:

Spyderco Calypso Jr., either micarta or lightweight version -- not the steel version.

Although no one else mentioned it above, I'd advise you consider it anyway. It is in a niche of its own. It cuts like a razor, and will pretty quickly be outcutting anything else you own. I consider it a "gentleman's scalpel". It's the one knife in my entire collection that I feel has no match. I think everyone should have one in their collection. And not just collection, it's inexpensive, and the joy is in the use.

Beyond that, I feel the 710 Axis is destined to be a classic. If you don't like it, you should get any axis that you like -- the Osborne mentioned above is a great choice -- but you should definitely have an axis lock knife in your collection.

Great thread. Lets see, the must haves and not waana haves...

1. Spyderco Wegner, of course
2. Benchmade 710
3. Spyderco Endura
4. At least one custom

Spyderco Chinook. I just got one, and have many other lockback and linerlock folders, but nothing even comes close to this in terms of beefiness. I've been carrying it either IWB or front right pocket and it really doesn't feel that bulky at all. The confidence that this knife inspires when in hand is incredible. I feel like I could cut apart a log cabin with this thing and have it still look and work as good as new. All of my other folders feel puny and weak compared to this beast. And since it's a lockback, I know that it will still be locking up tight 20 years from now when one-hand locking folders have long been outlawed and all the rest of my "hard use" liner locks have become unusable due to wear.

I'm even planning to get a second one with a black clip and and hopefully none of the slight blade rub that my current #971 specimen exhibits.

Paul.
