Do you have a gadget that you think no one should be without? Or do you have one that is just too neat not to have? Post!

For myself, I feel everyone should have one of the small led microlights (Photon, Princeton Tec Pulsar, etc..) as a necessity, but the cool little Traser glowring is just neat!

Being a Flashaholic I would second the Photon. I prefer the Photon because of the switch, but any of them wil do in a pinch. If you don't have one you need one

I think that everyone should own at least one SureFire light. The beam quality and brightness from these little lights is amazing. For anyone who does not currently own a SureFire, I would start with new E2. It is like the good ol' industry standard 6P, except much smaller and lighter with a longer runtime, with just about the same brightness.

Plus SureFire lights get to be just like knives, you can't own just one

The E2 is probably destined to become the next must-have gadget for the next couple of years. Smaller than a 2-AA Maglite but as bright as a 5-D Maglite? Sign me up!

For the geekier among us, a good PDA is already a must. In the next couple of years, as the various wireless technologies mature -- from bluetooth to wireless internet -- these should really come into their own. As it is now, I wasn't sure what I'd do with mine when I bought it a few months ago, and now I find it indispensible.

I like the Krill light, looks like a light stick, but is battery powered, lasts a long time.
a kneck knife, like the Cold Steel Bird and Trout.
Strike Force fire starter.....
the list goes on and on.

I second the SwissTech UtiliKey! These items are attached to my key ring:
1 Swiss Tech UtiliKey
2 Photon II - White
3 Tracer Glow Ring
4 A micro can opener (same steel as the one used in SwissTech)
5 A cork screw (home made)

Got the M3, M2, and E1....now eyeing an 8NX.

Either a SF or one of them LED lights like a Photon or the Streamlight Stylus are must haves for any gadget freak!

Only one gadget? How about three.

1. SAK of your choice
2. LED light. My favorite right now is the white Streamlight Stylus. That thing is bright! I still carry an array of photons though. I also prefer the on/off switch.
3. Surefire (any). I just got an E1 for daily pocket carry and love it. An M2 is in the future but not really necessary since I use a P111 on my Glock. (Also have a 6P, a 6R, and a Scorpion)

There are a lot neat gadgets out there.

The Streamlight Stylus 2 and 3 LED light is one to consider. Really bright and you can carry it like a ball point pen.

The "micro-tools" Swiss-tec, specifically the M4 with scissors is another neat one to have.

The Victorinox Altimeter SAK is worth a look as well. Check out my mini-review in the knife review forum.

Underwater Kinetics flashlights may not be a gadget but, rank up there with Sure Fire lights for general good use.

I can't find any evidence that either Swiss-Tech or SeberTool is currently making a tool with scissors on it. Can you tell me more about this?

Dexter: Congrats on all the lights

. I have an 8NX and I highly recommend it as well. Be sure to pick up an E2 some time soon too

Clay: I personally cannot wait for the Leatherman Juice line. Right now I carry a SureFire E1 but only a BM 705 and SAK Mini-champ on my keyring. Even the smaller LM's are too big to carry in a pocket. I emailed Leatherman and they expect the Juice line to be released in Fall of 2001.

My dream is a Photon III on my keyring and both a Leatherman Juice tool and SureFire E2 in my pocket

Just added a Bausch & Lomb 10X Hastings Triplet to my keychain next to the Photon II and the Swiss-Tech Utili-Key. The old eyesight isn't what it used to be. This B&L magnifier is the class of the field. Three separate glass elements (which is the Hastings style vs. the less expensive Coddington style of a single thick lens which doesn't provide as wide a viewing area), housed in a nickel-plated brass case. All no larger than the first joint of my index finger. The lens itself pivots out of the case on a peened pin allowing the case to be used as a handle.
