Must-Have Gadgets

Smooth Bone,

Edwood had it on the money. The yahoo egeology shop is actually Kooter's, and they couldn't have been nicer. The price is as good as I could find and I looked, because shipping is included (so is a nylon lanyard with a swivel clip). Come package very securely, with a plastic ring encircling and protecting the B&L box, all in bubble wrap and inside a envelop. 'Tis a grand wee lens.

I'm a final year Geology Undergraduate, and have a three lens handlens. It's like the ones on that site (which took ages to load, and most of the photos didn't show). I don't recall the brand though. I paid about £20 for it, and used it quite a lot over the last three years. I also have a mean Geology Hammer Rock Pick (long) from Estwing, and a CompassClino (Silva Ranger 25TDCLE-L)

When flying, it's best not to keep your Rock Pick with your hand-baggage for the flight. It's fine in the hold.

You know another super handy gadget that I really like is the Zeiss 6X pocket telescope/magnifier that they came out with about a year ago. It's a handy little sucker. It's only 4 1/2" long and 1/2" wide and has amazingly clear optics and is 100% waterproof. You can also turn it around and it's a 6X magnifier. It has a neat pocket clip and is so light and small you can take it anywhere and never know you have it until it's needed. I got mine for $89.00, (with free shipping), through Cabella's which is a bargain considering how quality it is and it's a made in Germany, honest to gosh Zeiss. A.G. Russell also carries them.

Lights are great. I have many, but sometimes there is no substitute for good American made, Gen 3, Night Vision. Bought one of these two years ago, use it on the boat at night. Once I got over the sticker shock, it became a favorite toy...

I agree on the SureFire E-2. Just got mine and I'm impressed. If I could only have one light, that would be it. Course, the Photons are neat.
