My 1 of 50 CPM M4 Rift May Be Gone

In general, when someone tells me they will ship something to me by FedEx, I tell them to save us both time, money and aggravation and just toss it in the nearest dumpster. Around here, FedEx is only marginally better than sending it by hobo. Glad you got your package in the end.

Benchmade made it real nice. Smooth, not a hint of play, perfectly centered. They even thinned the angle like I asked, which will save me time resharpening to a 8-10 per side angle. The bevels aren't even side to side but who cares, I'm just going to reprofile it anyway and it's going to be a user. Hopefully soon I can get it to Phil Wilson for a re heat treat to 65 RC and that black coating can go bye bye.

Yab, no more Fed Ex for me. You are dead on. Any moron that walks with a package into the wrong house, looks around at no furniture and several contractors, then throws the package across the room is just a prick. Since Fed Ex seems to enjoy hiring those types I'll avoid them at all costs in the future, as I've learned my lesson.

Glad to hear you got your M4 Rift back Mike!

I was going to email you and offer a spare I bought as a possible gift to my dad, but then I read someone else offered one up. I'm glad you don't have to deal with all that though and got it back.

I think I would definitely put in a complaint on the driver. Even if he is swamped that is not acceptable.

Also glad to hear you recovered it Mike. Glad that BM got it fixed for you also. I agree with Fla about the driver! Btw, 950-1001 #11 will be here next wednesday!!:D

Kudo's to the member who offered to sale theirs to you.

Well, the guys next dooe were good and gave the unopened package to my wife. Mike

Just goes to show that even in these crazy times, most people are honest and try to do the right thing. It's the bad ones that cause most of the grief. Shame you had all that stress but glad it all worked out in the end - I've got my fingers crossed on a limited edition M4 early next year

that is great news! I hope you use it hard! Glad to hear the people next door were so decent and honest. Now the serious question: When are the pictures coming?

Whew! Glad teh story has a happy ending.

I'm holding off on shipping a knife until after the holidays for similar reasons.

Meanwhile, I'm carrying and using my M4 Rift -- I set the edge at a conservative 15 degrees per side to start with. The original edge was about 50-60 degrees inclusive. :grumpy:

That driver should be fired....

I agree 100%, and I did file a complaint. I just hope he doesn't trash the Sharpmaker I bought for my father in law that he is delivering today.

I will definately use my blade very hard. I will get it rehardened by Phil Wilson and hopefully reground to a .010" or thinner edge so 65 RC or so M4 can shine. The re heat treat will also burn off that coating and the massive lettering on the knife that I can do without, but I will have some work to do as I hear that the finish under that coating is really bad (but a regrind can really help there). I don't buy knives as museum pieces, I buy them to use them. I take good care of them and maintain them very well, but they do get their fair share of scratches. I am extremely happy that I got this knife back, as the Rift is by far my favorite Benchmade and getting the chance to get it in M4 was just a great thing for me. This knife should see considerable EDC time.

Holy goodness!

Well, belated happy birthday, Mike!

Betting your knife will be able to treetop hair with a 36 grit edge once Phil is done with it.
