Bought about 70 pounds of vintage files the other day...at least 50 vintage nicholson , a bunch of heller, simonds, and Lenox in the mix also

these are all vintage...one from Korea....no Chinese in the whole lot...a bunch of nicholson black diamond in there...so nice stuff.

Nice. Our local flea market only has new cheap stuff ordered from China. They don't have any old stuff like they used to.

Call me crazy...but I live an hour or so from aldo in NJ...wondering if her be interesting in a trade....1084 is definitely my speed right now

It's funny how little others think of old files. I have had a machine shop drop off probably 100 pounds of used files that seemed fine to me. A fellow who works at a chain saw shop brought my buddy Don a bundle of about 100 brand new 1/4" round files that got a bit of rust on them after the roof leaked. He said they use a file only a couple times and chuck it.

Send them out for sharpening. It's a flat rate, no charge for the ones they don't do or didn't turn out wel.

Don't forget, old files that are not too damaged or rusty can be sharpened at reasonable cost and will be about as good as new files. A good used file that can be put back to work in the shop is worth more than an equivalent piece of plain carbon steel...don't turn them into knives unless they are too far gone to use as files

I know a guy who will give me a box of 20 or 30 "used up" Nicholsons whenever I ask. They throw them away rather than clean the teeth. I guess it's pretty common.
