My 1st Becker - In need of a little cosmetic surgery

My 1st Becker! I was able to pick this up fairly cheap since some coating was missing and was hoping for some good ideas on how to make it look purdy again without spending too much $. I’m not sure what the previous owner did to cause this but it looks to be in otherwise unused condition.

I have seen a lot of great pictures of modified Beckers on here but do not have much experience with altering/modifying blade coatings, so a less advanced solution is preferred.

Your suggestions are appreciated!

easy, strip the rest of it, then sand it down. From there anything is possible.

if you WANT a coating, send it to K9 and he can put about any color you want on it. He does custom DuraCoating.

How about ceracoat/cerakote? Seems to be really good, though not sure I've seen it on a knife before.

Though I second thrillbilly. Buy some a paint stripper and have at. Could go for a mirror polish. :eagerness:

In my opinion, the best thing to do would to be the beat it like a red-headed step child and even that coating out the real way :D

Odd spot for the coating to be missing though, very interesting.

citrustrip gel will clean off the rest of the paint on that blade.
so would sandblasting.
just leave the coating on under the handle scales.

Good point about the paint under the handle. I think a stone washed finish would be cool, maybe bead blast. Hard to go wrong really. Though using it a bunch and just wearing off more paint that way would be fun.

Is the damage on the other side too?

A few chips but nothing like the "acid stain" on the other side.

Yeah you can never really 'fix' the coating for good if you plan on using the knife. Just strip it down.

I'd leave it just like that.
And when people ask you how it got there you can tell them you smacked somebody in the face with it!:D

What about

?? ;)

Process lots of wood (or enemies) & get that awesome post-apocalyptic look, or if you want it "nice and pretty" strip it!

Fully strip it. Do a Patina on the blade.

Use a stripper or sand blast it (i like to use a stripper the sand blast it a little to give texture.) The get some vinegar and paper towels Place the paper towels on a non metallic surface add some vinegar (apple for ligher color red wine for darker don't use balsamic), put the knife on top of it add more paper towels on top add more vinegar Turn sides very 5 min to get air remove it when you think it's done. (20 mins for me)

There…problem solved! Good to go…

No but seriously, thank you for the tips. I appreciate it!

bouree13, was hoping to see more pics or something. This is better than expected. Looks much better and if you cut yourself, you've a bandage right there.

Be sure to post whatever you wind up doing, would be cool to see.

Good stuff Bouree13!
It only took 5 or 10 miutes to strip mine.
I planned on sanding it, but I liked the looks of the bare blade so I left it alone.
