Here is my 1st blade that I made out of 1075/80, clayed then heated, quenched and temp...ugly and needs finishing:o

I'd hardly call that ugly! Can't wait to see it once it's finished. What kind of handle are you going to put on it?

We must have different standards. That is sweet, Sweet.

How long? How wide? How hard?

Kis?

You make it difficult to behave when you ask questions like that....:p ;) :D

Sweet, that's really nice. If that's your first attempt, I can hardly wait to see what happens when you get more practice.

Kismet - keep that up and you'll force Nasty to move this thread to the 'cove'. :D

Yeah, not too bad for something just thrown together at the last minute. ;) :D

Can't wait to see it with the handle in place. Next you'll have to take lessons from Andy, Leatherface, Sarge and Dan and make a sheath for it.

Please let us know the particulars; did you use an electric forge, or what? I already know about your kick-butt grinder...

Thanks everyone!

Josh I dont know yet...I have a pretty good amount of stock on hand of exotic wood to choose from including natural vertical bamboo saved from when I had a floor done in the house:thumbup: whichever gets used for the handle I'll post up the pic.

Kismet:D I think being here since 1999 I am still ban-able:D ...the numbers of the OA 9 3/16", BL 5 7/16", width 1 9/16" at guard, thickness 1/4"" with distal taper 1/8" at 1" back from the tip...heated to non-magnetic, water quenched then put in my oven which was set at 400 for 1hr 15min....I need to buy either a rockwell tester or files

Norm! I broke down and bought a Forgemaster from Harry Patton a Salinas local over on the north side http://www.harrypatton.com/ go check his place out, those MAPP gas things were not working out for me:rolleyes:

Looks awesome. Your first clay heat treat huh? Wow. Can't wait to see your handle ideas.

Thanks for the forge info Ben. Sounds like you have a nice setup now, with way less headaches in the long run.

Beautiful.

Sort of a modified spear point? I've er, rescued a couple of old kitchen knives into what I consider to be trade, or Ndn, knives with similar point configuration.

Not even in the same universe of skill or beauty, though.

Beautiful!!!!  I can hardly wait to see when you get the handle on it.:D
Are you gonna put a guard on it and if so what material are you gonna use? ;)

Ben, that's looking super.

I made the mistake of clicking on Harry Patton's link. I think I'm in trouble.

If you need any wood for the handle, I've got some nice exotic stuff (granadillo, purple heart, zircote, etc. As well as some apple). Let me know if you're interested.
