Well 2 years ago today I signed up for my BF membership and it has been a wonderful voyage to date :) It means a lot to me to have a place to learn about traditional knives and be able to share my own experiences with a community that appreciates it... a.k.a. "The Porch" :D

I've come to the realization that I have a "plethora" of vintage scout knives and a couple of duplicates that I should pass along. The first is this Utica Kutmaster Girl Scout knife made from 1948 to 1972. This one is hard to come by in "unscratched" or otherwise beat up condition so this is a pretty good example.

The second knife I would like to give away is this 1966-1976 Ulster BSA knife otherwise called the "Scoutmasters Model". This one is in nicer shape than the Girl Scout knife but they are also more abundant in "great shape".

My hope for this giveaway is for these knives to go to your son/daughter as either their "first knife" or at least their first "vintage knife" ;) Hopefully the gesture will spark an interest in pocket knife history and the knife can either be a collector item for them or a good user when the family goes camping :)

This GAW is open to anyone that actively participates in the Traditional Knife Forum (50+ posts) and fully intends to give this knife to their son/daughter for responsible use ;) Parental Guidance suggested.

If someone outside the U.S. wins I will try to ship the knife there as long as the laws are fairly straightforward and I won't get in any trouble for doing so :D

You can either just post "Boy Scout Knife" or "Girl Scout Knife" but if you would like to brag about your kid a little bit it might be nice to share a short story of a kind gesture they did for you, a family member, a friend or someone in the community. A gesture that may have caught you by surprise and made you especially proud ;)

I will let this run until next Sunday and then I will do a random number generator until I get a winner for each knife . Good luck and thanks for posting!

Boy Scout Please.
I would definitely give that knife to my son, Ben. He loves traditional knives almost as much as I do. In fact, he is the proud owner of the very first GEC knife that I ever bought, and he refuses to trade me back for it. Lol

Ben is an Eagle Scout, he's attending Santa Clara University to become an Engineer, and for his Eagle project he built picnic tables for a local Special Education program so they'd have their very own place to have lunch with their friends. Ben is a thoughtful boy, he makes sure to call his Grandma when he gets back to school because he knows she worries about him taking the train and the bus. I've never prompted him to do that.

I could go on and on bragging about my son, but I think that's enough for an entry :D

Thanks for your generosity and a chance for my son to win a very cool knife.

Awesome John! Thanks for starting things off on the right foot for us :)

I would like a shot at the Girl Scout Knife, I think Molly would love it!

Here she is carving a pumpkin under supervision:D
Edit to add:
I forgot the second part of the post! Molly normally talks about how annoying her younger cousins are, but I “caught” her patiently playing kitchen with my 5 year old nephew during the thanksgiving break while the adults were all outside!

Congratulations on your second anniversary with BF, Kevin!
Please put me down for the Girl Scout knife. I have five adult sons, four of which are Eagle Scouts. However, I don't think any of them are particularly interested in traditional knives. My 15-year-old daughter, on the other hand, is a fellow knife nut. She's been interested in modern knives for years, but I have got her hooked on traditionals now. I recently bought her a Case amber bone Texas Jack, which she carries daily. When I showed her the picture of the green knife, she said she would let me pick her husband if I got her that knife! (My first knife was a similar looking scout knife with black scales; my wife's first knife, which her father gave her, was a Utica Kutmaster stockman).

My daughter is a member of the American Heritage Girls, similar to the Girl Scouts, but with maybe a little more emphasis on patriotism. They meet weekly, and go camping regularly. She participates frequently with community service type projects, such as helping at a local food bank, or beach clean-up. As a member of her church youth group, she has also helped residents of the old folks' home with games (like bingo). She exemplifies the attributes of a good Scout and citizen, and her mother and I are very proud of her. I guess a recent nice gesture was giving her three-year-old niece a Build-a-Bear which I bought her years ago.

Anyway, a neat idea for a GAW, and good luck to all the entrants!

Congratulations on two years! I recently passed my first year and it is amazing how much fun it has been.

I have four boys and three old enough to use knives so I’m in for the boy scout knife.

Thanks for the generosity!

My oldest son has begun taking more responsibility upon himself and often gives his privilege to one of his younger siblings. But I’m thankful that all of my kids enjoy helping others. Often we’re early to school where I work and the boys have developed the routine of setting up the chairs for morning meeting. It’s a small thing but just the kind of habit I want them to have.

Congrats Kevin and leave it to you to come up with a GAW that is meaningful and deeply touching already. Thank you sir for your contributions and the manner in which you offer them. Ernie1980 Ernie1980 thanks for sharing about your Molly with us :). JohnDF JohnDF and Prester John Prester John it is no small accomplishment to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. And Joshua how very proud you must be of your sons. It speaks volumes as to what kind of fathers you men are. I am definitely not in but thank you to all.

I would like to enter for the Girl Scout knife for my daughter.

I actually host a BSA scout knife GAW annually in memory of my little brother, so I feel like there is unlikely to be any shortage of BSA knives for my son when he is old enough to have his own scout knife. But for my daughter, I have wanted to get her a Girl Scout knife. It won't be her first knife, she already has three (two manicure knives and an Imperial Peanut), but it would certainly be a good knife for her once she is old enough to really get out and use a knife on her own.

I have been trying to avoid entering into GAWs lately because I have had such good luck, but I don't see many Girl Scout knives in that good of condition, so I can't pass up this opportunity. The last time I spotted a Girl Scout knife in comparable condition I bought it for my friend's wife who leads a Girl Scout troop. I'd love to land one for my daughter. She is only 4 and a half, but she is a little knife knut. I have been working with her to harvest some green maple logs to build a loft bed for her, and getting out into the woods and then peeling the logs at home has given her plenty of opportunity lately to "use" her knives. She has really been enjoying it.

I try to limit the pictures of my children online, but this is one I have shared before. This was her reaction to receiving her first knife, the aforementioned Peanut. The knife was a gift from another forumite :)

Blimey, two years?! Haven't you ALWAYS been here Kevin?!

Those are two fabulous knives, but my 3 girls are long grown-up, and have no interest in knives either sadly :( So, not an en entry from me, but good luck everyone :) Very generous giveaway Kevin, and a nice idea

Sounds awesome! Thanks for the entry :)

Nice idea, nice knives. No kids here so not an entry.
My sister had one of those green ones that I found in the attic and expected her to let me have, but no. Knife nut though she isn't, she wanted it back.
I bought one at an antique mall a few years ago, out of a sort of reverse nostalgia.
