Oh. I get it now. I have thought about doing something like that with a magnet on the face of the saya only that would attract the guard. That way is different.

Finally got round to doing some cooking. I'll be working in the kitchen this weekend, catering for a group of 40. I'm really looking forward using this. So far the knife performs really well I think.

The knife is thin but doesn't have a lot of flex. Due to the grind and the satin finish the food penetration was really good. The handle is also really comfy. Thanks again Robert.

Sorry for the blurry pic it's getting dark here already. Oh, and a bit of the tip snapped of in transport but not to worry, it should grind right out.

A magnet in a place where the blade will slide is usually a bad idea. It attracts any metal shavings and dust, as well as causes the blade to scrape across the hard magnet's surface. This will often make lateral scratches appear on the blade.

that's what I was thinking when I saw it. The idea I had toyed around with was for a Tanto or smaller style. Embedding a small magnet in the face of the saya that would attract the guard. Not near the blade opening, and not very strong. I'm still trying to figure out the bull's eye looking pin on the one side of that handle.

Glad it's getting some use!
Sorry about the tip :grumpy: It was maybe too snug in the padded case. It's in capable hands for a touch up though

Epoxy

But one side looks like a solid pin the other like a tube within a tube. No idea what that is.

I'm not really sure. The one side is solid, it almost looks like some type of rivet. I'll see if I can get a better look tonight.

The magnet's on the inside of the saya, shouldn't it be on the outside? It looks like the female half of a corby was used in front, and a smaller male half in the back?

Giant magnet. As to why it was done like this, maybe Scott will chime in.

first attempt at a saya. thought the magnet would work to retain the knife. I guess it was a little to powerful a magnet. the magnet is below the inside of the saya and is covered with clear epoxy. the handle has solid pins, two sizes, it might look like a tube due to the handle finish.
