I have been making stock removal knives for a little over a year now. I have been using mainly stainless steels and sending them out for heat treat. This is the first one that I heat treated. It was exciting! I built a mini forge after the first of the year to heat treat in. I tested it out on an old file to see how hot it would get. I did this knife tis weekend. I know it's pimitive backyard heat treating but I think it turned out good.
The specs on the knife are:
steel is 1080
oal:6 in.
blade: 2 1/2 in.
handle is stabalized spalted pecan

I'd say you chose a good steel for the HT method, so hopefully it turned out well. Low alloy, low carbide, high carbon steel like that can have great edge stability. I'll bet it can go super acute and get crazy sharp.

Looks nice too.

Lookin' good! I think it looks cool the way each pin has a little birdseye close to it on that gorgeous pecan. The two-tone effect is nice too. Sometimes ya get lucky that way :)

That is a great looking blade, and I'll bet in feels great in your hand. I like that type of wood.
