My $32.99 blade upgrade arrived today!!!

OOOHHHHHH, :D now I completely understand!
I also probably would not spend the $60.00.
Especially if I were to possibly tape it under the seat!
I hope that you never need the one in the Xterra!! ;)

When did Winchester, Remington, and Browning (any others) become knife makers? Or do they just market stuff made overseas? When I by a Buck I know the lineage. Not too sure about the others? It may not matter if you get value for the money.

Maybe that's why Buck has a line of foreign made blades to compete.

I admit, I too own a few knives not Buck, the few I have are just good enough to not get rid of. If find myself dirty side up and shiny side down I carefully reach into my PU center console, and pick it up off the ceiling where it spilled, and get my machinest spring punch and/or swiss army knife with the small curved serrated blade already out to launch my escape attmept. No ball peen under seat for me in case there were multiple rolls there will be enough stuff trying to hit my noggin anyway. I do cater to vanity and keep a old style GI entrenching tool, in cover, under the seat. Just in case of major civil unrest. (Low on visual threat, high on the lethal strike factor) Gall's catalog carries a public servant knife with the spring punch and curved blade all in one unit. A sort of rescue status symbol.

I got mine for $35.00 and its a BUCK!!!!!!! Just gotta watch for the deals :D

wh4f - *You* are the undisputed master of deals!!! *No one* can match you when it comes to shrewd dealing!!! I could never hope to get as good a deal as you can... :p

My $32.99 blade upgrade arrived today...Don't you just love that feeling you get when you see a small box in your mailbox??? :D Here's a pic -
The bolsters ... might just be nickel plated crapsteel...the scales look to me to be imitation-jigged plastic...the brass looks real...the blade steel is unknown, but is most likely 1020 steel...it's just about sharp enough to cut butter...
What's that, you say??? It's not a Buck??? Well, no...no, it's not a Buck - it's what I bought with the money I would have spent on a blade upgrade for one of my Buck 110's, if Buck still offered blade upgrades...since they don't, this was my second choice ...
If this knife looks familiar, it's because I bought one exactly like it at the beginning of the Summer. It's been taped to the seat frame of my Xterra for emergencies, but it keeps getting ripped out and used for lunches, rope tows, tieing down motorcycles, cutting duct tape, etc...so that one will stay in the Xterra with the ball peen hammer, and this one will go on my belt. ;)

howdy trax... i can understand the need for an seat belt escape knife. i listed a bright red paramedic buck knife and did not get any bid over 19$ and it had a reserve of 25... i sold it to the neabor for 25.
+ a spring loaded meachinest is recomended by FHP in case you run in to the swamp or other water as no need to swing in comfined air space and maby hit some one in the car with you... and that it is hard to swing under water!
->>>tapeing a knife under a seat can easly be determened to be a concealed weapon if LEO looked under it for what ever reason...
better in glove box or taped to dash visable...

as to you being up set at buck over the lack of choice steel...
i dont mean to leacture and most of this is leading to advice to ohers...

> if you dont have it you cant sell it.. jest as i cant sell you the red knife as i sold it already...i can understand not being happy you cant get it...

would you not lissen and act on it if some one said -
you know i would pay you - not the 35 but 45 or 50$ if i could get it !

it could be hard to find sorces were you can buy choice steel and
sell it for 35 and make a dollar.

per happes buck made a error in NOT stating that any one steel may not be avabile and to list YOUR prefreance for an alternate substute if the one is out.

i advise any one to do as i did and state what is an acceptal alternatave
i sent in knives for repair and up grade and said i wanted bg 42
{so i could sing disco with with the Blue Rhino's Exclusivesty BG's club}
or in the case of the 560 the s30v
but that i did not want ast34 under any cermstances and jest use a reg blade to jest fix it. that if other settls were avabile that i would pay for them also,,,

all i got back were reg blades or some thing else i could live with and the 560 got s30v. sadly i can not join and sing with Rhino's BG's still

you have to give them your choices of what to do to please you or
to send it back if X-steel is not avabile!!

NO- i did not get every thing i requested and wished for on the
8 lb of knives i sent in but i got more then enught of what
i wanted to make me very... make that -verrry happy!!!!

as to ats 34 you can find my reasons for being GLAD they dont offer it any longer! and are only using up stock were they did not sell it after they quit adveretiseing it because many want it anyway...

i dont mean to leatcure or critise rather to inform others so they dont become upset as you seem to be...
better to avoid miss-expactions and missunderstanding in the first place i think...

check out my new herd picts on page 2 of sig line !

I'm not saying I am the undisputed master of deals, just that it is possible to get a reasonable priced knife, all you need is patience I guess...

I was not trying to impose on your choice of knives either, just there are Buck knives still made designed specifically for cutting seatbelts (the serrated sheepsfoot with the blunt end) Is the remington knife designed to cut seatbelts, or is it some sort of remington "zipper" for game? Might wanna try it on a junk car? Anyway no need to start pokin fun, we're all reasonable people I thought. Maybe with the title of this thread it should be in W&C :D?

Thanks Dave someone had to say it! :D

This doesn't belong in W&C; it's about knives. It certainly doesn't belong in the Buck forum. Try riding your new non-Harley Davidson bike into the Harley Davidson dealer's showroom and bragging about it to all his customers....

howdy trax...

Hi Dave!

as to you being up set at buck over the lack of choice steel... per happes buck made a error in NOT stating that any one steel may not be avabile and to list YOUR prefreance for an alternate substute if the one is out...you have to give them your choices of what to do to please you or to send it back if X-steel is not avabile!!

Dave, my original thread stated that I listed three choices, in order of preference...and that Buck sent me a steel not on my list without even notifying me of the non-availability of the other choices (which were BG-42, ATS34, or 154CPM)...despite having my email, phone, and mail address...

And if you'd read the thread, you'd have noticed that Joe Houser was more upset than I was...especially at the long delay in upgrading the 110 I sent in...

Ok,
I will admit up front that I am still quite groggy from cold medications and a huge lack of meaningful sleep. :o
But I am not sure what the beef is? Is it that we are out of blade upgrades for the 110? Or is it that we don't make a seatbelt cutter knife anymore? Or is it that the one we used to make is too expensive?
Regardless of which, I fear this will end badly because I cant really help with any of the above. I can bug the shop and see about getting some more upgraded 110 blades but I know they are already working loads of overtime right now. :o

Sorry to hear about the cold/flu; it's going around here, too... :(

Is it that we are out of blade upgrades for the 110?

It's the lack of communication about blade upgrades. About what is and what isn't available. Whether phone [interminable holds] or email [no replies]. And it's not just me; others are experiencing the same problems.

Or is it that we don't make a seatbelt cutter knife anymore? Or is it that the one we used to make is too expensive?

I didn't know it was out of production...or how much it cost...but I am looking ... :)

I just thought the R-3 was a neat knife.

I'll stop criticizing. It is Christmas, after all.

The ResQMe is about the size of my thumb. It attaches to a short plastic bar which has a 1" diameter split ring on it. Attach the split ring to your car keys, grab the ResQme and pull and it pops off the plastic bar, ready to go.

The blade is hidden within the curved arm and is sharp enough to cleanly open envelopes. Press the window breaker against the glass until it pushes all the way in when the spring releases automatically, snapping a needle point against the glass. No free swinging necessary.
