My $4.00 Case Tested flea market knife

The guide I look at actually shows both 2-blade and 3-blade versions of the '1/2' model, with the picture I included from the 2-blade pattern section of the book. Pattern #s listed in the book vary accordingly, with the 2-blade '06245-1/2' and 3-blade omitting the leading zero as '6345-1/2', by Case's convention for including # of blades as a digit in the pattern#.

Duhh….I totally overlooked the 3 in my reference.

The 1/2 suffix indicates an option as a main blade on two blade patterns, or options on secondaries on three blade patterns. Typically a pattern number without a suffix is the “standard” configuration. The 6245-1/2 would be a two blade but which main is the standard I don’t know.

A Arathol thanks for illuminating me :) CASE did have a greenish looking bone back in those days I think, wonder what that's called, Bradford Bone ?
Its called green bone....green bone was the product of a potassium permanganate dyeing process and has many color variations. Case didn't have anything other than red and green bone until the 1960s I believe..... and even then they didn't really designate bone as red or green, it was just bone stag.

1/2 in the pattern number indicates a clip main blade.

In part of my searching online, I came across a thread over on the AAPK site about a posted 06245-1/2 with a regular / nail nick pull. Good images there too, of that knife. Some input there by Steve Pfeiffer, a.k.a., 'knifeaholic' on BF and same member name on the AAPK site as well, whom authored a good reference on collecting Case knives. By the discussion there, I get the impression the '1/2' variation is the one with the clip blade, with the spear being the more common default on the 06245 pattern. (and now seeing similar input by Arathol here).

I use Steve's book as a reference. He's very knowledgeable.

Ah, at 3 1/4+" it cannot be a 45 or 045 pattern, both of which are 3 3/4"!
I cannot find your 3 1/4" pattern in Steve Pfeiffer's book!
I have the same knife!! Anyone know the pattern number??Green 3 quarter pen 1.jpgGreen 3 quarter pen 2.jpg
I payed a lot more than you did!!! 😲 🤣

6230 1/2 I think for the clip blade version....
Thanks, Arathol!! I believe that is what Tony Foster R.I.P. told me also!!
Steve Pfeiffer missed that pattern in his book!!! It is kinda rare, I believe!!

I didn’t see it either. Anyway it’s nice to find out the correct pattern number. In looking through the AAPK I’ve seen maybe three or four.

Well this is coming out of my pocket for now until I figure out the value. I would hate to lose it and find out it’s worth a couple hundred.

IDK Never thought it was anything that good

Two things… I say use it and relish the fact that you have damn near 100 year old knife. It was made to be used. It was used, but also loved. You should do the same.

Also, my red green color blindness is clearly showing through. I swore it was red… LOL

Well, its not actually green either.....Real Case greenbone is generally more of a brown color than anything else.

I had 5 of them, but got an offer I couldn't refuse!!

Better than money in the bank. I passed up a really nice 1935 22/32 Kit Gun a few months ago because the front sight blade didn’t look original. Picky picky 😂

Even though I got the colour wrong....well THAT one certainly is a lot more 'greenish' but what a beautiful pattern, fine jigging too, great example Charlie. Maybe it gave inspiration to GEC for their 68 and 35 patterns? Be happy if CASE started it up again, despite the fact that we wouldn't get bone like that...The right size for a pocket-knife.

It really ain’t worth $4.00. I’ll give you your money back if you pay shipping just so you don’t get hornswoggled.

Congratulations, great find!
