My 8 Bar French Dagger

Bruce, that is breathtakingly beautiful! You are the kind of maker that inspires us all and gives us something to shoot for. I would settle for being able to make something half that nice and then I would think I was a pretty hotshot bladesmith.

Here's some more questions...Are the designs on the guard and ricasso areas stamped into the metal or cast or what? Are those elements soldered on, press fit? What is the guard made of? That is a gorgeous design and gives the piece kind of a medieval quality.

Peter the guard is made of mild steel and hot gun blued. Before the blueing it was engraved by my friend Tom Moro as all the Nickel silver parts of the knife were engraved individually before final assembly. The pommel is leadloy and was blued also but rubbed right back off again. There is no solder in this one. All the parts fit very nicely and center themselves on the tang and the pommel is tapped and screwed on.

That is without a doubt one of, if not the best looking peices I have ever seen. Not to ornimental, and everything compliments everything else. Looks like something midevil royalty would have had.
Now I'll just suck it up and go back to work on the low layer single bar twist I'm working on.

Bruce, just incredible! I will be moving to Wenatchee Aug 1, have dismantled the shop and just look forward to being closer to your vibes. Maybe some of that very fine craftsmanship will slide upstream. Might be a while before I get running again, but hope to see you soon. Terry
 
I don't see what the big deal is, I saw one just like that at K-Mart the other day.:p

I saw this one in hand too, and it's awesome. Bruce got a great deal of elements in this knife, but stayed true to clean elegance. It's not gawdy even though it's complex.

Bruce and I love daggers...and I think pieces like this will help to reinforce that in others too!!! :)

Nick I bought that dagger at Kmart and posted it here as one of mine. You are the only one that caught me. That last dagger that you had on here is now on sale at WalMart.
 
Bruce that is absolutely beautiful, may I borrow it? my widow will clean my blood off and return. All the Bruce's you guy's are awsome!
