My 9-month old TomTom One is dead. TomTom refuses to honor the 1-year warranty

TomTom has relented and approved the warranty repair of my unit "as a one-time courtesy." I'll be sending it in tomorrow.

I bought my last Garmin from REI (rei.com). They have the best warranty of any retail business. If you ever are not satisfied with anything you buy from them, they will refund your money or replace the product. Not the best price...but the best warranty. Don't have to worry about the receipt either, they keep track of what you buy if you are a member.

Garmin hands down. they even have chat sites if you need the help or what not.. damn a tom tom

glad to see after a crap ton of hassle tom tome finally did you right.. thanks for the warning though G.

Good news!

Repair it "as a one-time courtesy."?:eek::mad:
How magnanimous of them eh?

I think they have acted like a bunch of toads. I'm happy they fixed it for Gollnick. As I said before I have had two of them, the second one which I have now has some problems with the touch screen, and after what I've read I don't know if I'll be back for a third in the future. When you don't give good customer service and the word gets around--- the value of your product drops like a rock. There are several brands out there that will get you from point a to b. When you have that type of competition and your customer service stinks that's a mark against you. I think I will look around next time.

Wow this thread makes me glad I own a Garmin. As far as updates are concerned, you would be surprised how quickly new roads get built. We were in myrtle Beach this summer in this new shopping complex and looked like we were driving in the woods. Haha. Update does not take long. I rely on mine for speed limits, which can change sometimes.

What a load of crap. Tom tom just went off my list. Eventually I thought I might get one to replace my Garmin since I've heard good things about their products. Guess not!

"A one time courtesy?" Honoring their warranty is a one time courtesy. Wow. I think I might be tempted to write another letter to the president of the company.

As a side note one thing I do with any large purchases (which in my world is anything over 200 dollars) is scan them in using a flatbed scanner. That way I've always got the silly receipt. One thing I've noticed is that even if you keep receipts the ink on them often fades over time.

I stopped dealing with Tom Tom after my first unit from them. Their company has major issues with customer service. I've been happy with every Garmin I've purchased (4-5 units). But now I just use my Android cell phone as it is more up-to-date than any stand alone GPS unit and my phone is always with me.

EDIT: I should say that none of my Garmin units has ever had a problem and as far as I know they are all still working (I gave them away). I just like having the latest and greatest features, so I upgraded often. My parents and brother and son are all using units I gave them without any issues.

I have a box where I keep all reciepts that are important (anything over $50). It is a pain to find a specific one, but I know I have it. It's a small box too.

Nice job. Way to stick to it.

By the way, I often scan or simply take a picture of important receipts because they're often on thermal paper which fades. I keep photo files pretty safe because they include family memories, so the chances of me losing the files are low.

Well, I wouldn't be surprised that they require the original receipt.

My refurbished TomTom One arrived today. FedEx did a number on the box, but the unit inside is undamaged and it seems to work.

Well, it sounds like TomTom just lost about 800 potential sales from the people that looked at this thread and all for a $3.95 part!

Slick accounting :D

Hey Gollnick, I was reading some papers on lactic acid the other day and guess who's name was in the bibliography a lot?

My guess is Phil Gollnick, also known here on bf.c as "my sainted father."

Well... the refurbished TomTom One worked initially. I used it several times. Yesterday, I used it to meet a friend for lunch at a place I have never been to; the TomTom worked fine. Yesterday afternoon, I had an appointment at an office I have been to several times before, but not in several months. So, I wanted to use my GPS just in case. Remember, it had worked just hours earlier. I found it dead. I've tried to revive it today and it is dead.

I'm done with TomTom.
