This last weekend at the Fall Smoky Mountain Hammer-In I did my JS ABS bend test. The knife performed just the way it should. YaaHoo! Now I have to make the 5 knives for judging in Atlanta next year. I made 2 and did the testing in my shop to make sure all my techniques would work. I had a lot of fun making these knives. The 2nd knife performed just like its sister with the bend almost identical. I used 5160, 10" blade 14 1/2" OAL 1 3/4" wide, drew the spine twice. It was a lot of fun but nerve raking - glad it's done!

That's a nice looking knife! Congratulations on passing the test.

What's the spine thickness on the knife? Looks about 3/16ish?

Very very cool! Congrats on the progress so far, and best of luck with the rest of the process.

I knew I wasn't the only one looking forward to Atlanta already!!:D

Thanks all . The knife didn't take much of a set I was pleasantly surprised. The thickness was a little less than 3/16, thinner is better for bending it just takes longer to cut the 2x4's. Yes I am stoked about Atlanta just got a lot of work to do.........steve

Nice job Steve. Good bend. I am looking forward to seeing what you bring to Atlanta.

Looks like you will have no problem passing. Great work

Damn fine work.:)
Returning from a bend like that as much as it did is quite impressive.

Congratulations on a successful performance test! I am guessing that you through hardened as opposed to an edge quench...

Thanks for all the comments it was definitely a fun time. Allen yes I fully harden the blade, it's easier for me to keep good control of my temp (I use a ht oven), then I draw the spine and handle. After I chopped the 2 2x4's it was easily shaving sharp so the edge held held up great........steve

congrats on the bend test Steve, thats an introduction to the next batch of stress. Good luck in Atlanta and hope to see you there.
