My axis lock FAILED!

I have a leatherman surge, I switched to the knife because the saw was not working.

Every lock can fail.
I had my ritter grip disengage on me about 6 month or so ago, no biggie.

like the saw, I might get one:thumbup:

Yeah the axis lock isn't necessarily the most reliable lock out there. I used to have a 520 and one day both omega springs broke within about 30 seconds of each other. The axis lock is nice and smooth but if i'm going hiking or something and only taking 1 folder with me, I take a lock back, liner lock, or frame lock.

I chopped through a 2-3" birch sapling with my full-size Rukus once. The only problem I had was that it put a small chip in the edge. I haven't used it that roughly before or since. I was in the middle of a 15 mile hike when my friend developed knee problems and I decided to hack down a walking stick for her. The Rukus was the only blade I had with me.

I'm a firm believer if you want to chop with a folder if its stout enough
baton it if you really want to chop leather gloves and eye protection
or use a fixed blade my 2 cents worth and 5 coronas:thumbup: they tell me everything to say:p:D:D:D:D

I'll never baton with a folder, it sets up tremendous stress on the pivot and lock. I killed a knife that way once. I was hiking in the sierras one time and realized that I really needed a hiking staff, it was so steep... so out came the swiss army knife's saw, and a great staff was quickly cut. Why chop when you can just saw?

Umm... you can cut through a 1" branch without 'chopping'... a Mini-Rukus will cut admirably. But it isn't an ax. Don't blame the superb Axis lock when you're misusing it.
