It's really more than a survival item, it's a lot of stuff that's proven to come in handy.

first the overall view.

It doesn't show up well but there's an atwood prybaby and some duct tape there, along with an esbit tab and magic candles. Believe it or not I've had to dig out my "emergency" earplugs when I've forgotten mine.

I don't always have each module with me, the blister kit for instance, is for backpacking, but I hadn't put it back since the last time I used it.

If I'm out and for some reason don't get back home in a reasonable time I can make myself comfortable with what I have on me.

who makes the small nail puller/pry bar...not the atwood, but the copper colored tool?

the bottom of it seems to be resting on the blue D ring.

I'd like to know that, too.

They are available in Home Depot, True Value, and some Walmarts. I have three - Estwing, Stanley, and unmarked (Vaughn?).

Cool. Thank you. Now how about the tactical keychain? It looks cool. What's on it that you call it tactical?

Looks like: knife, can opener, whistle, Pry Baby, LED light.

Tougher is figuring out what's inside the containers.

Needle-nosed ViseGrips are great idea.

I agree. I would have simply said "Agreed," but the bloody software would not accept my post, saying it was too short. Yeesh.

what is that unusual shaped flat metal tool sticking up off the key chain and lying under the pry-bar??? Where do you get it?? What are the specs??? Is that what people call the "pry baby"???

That is called a prybaby. Can someone tell us where to get one, and what they are going for?

Thanks.

That's either a Prybaby or MiniPrybaby.

Look at Atwood Knife and Tool for the various versions of the Prybaby.

I checked the site out. I like the prybaby & prybaby xl. Unfortunately/fortunately, I have never spent $35 to $45 for a bottle opening keychain before! I am still considering it:confused: ...but I do not think I have that kind of money to spend on something like that with its limited applications. Not sure I will need a pry tool that much and everything else is on my SAK mechanic (around $26.00) with alot more function.

So, just to list some items with a less cost to function ratio:

SAK $26 or more
Leatherman Micra $21
Leatherman Blast $50

Granted, none have a mini-pry bar.
Having said that, I do like the prybaby/xl...but, makes me feel like a yuppy survival type...no offense intended to those that own one...like I said, I do like it:p

I bought a keyring screwdriver by P&C Tool Co. for .$99 at a local hardware store (bucket at the checkout counter).

It is 2.25" long and has a .75" wide thumb grip. It is made of carbon tool steel and works just fine as a mini prybar.

Thanks. That sounds like an idea.

I might ask for a prybaby-xl as a BDay gift...next year...that way I can honestly say I didn't pay for it:D
I don't want to be accused of being a "mall ninja";)

The keychain has a whistle, photon microlight, p38 canopener, spyderco jester, and the prybaby.

The other prybar is a cheapie I got at home depot, I think. It's not really copper colored. It's not the quality of the prybaby but it's not the cost either.

I heard of "tactical keychain" somewhere else and just picked up the label. It might be misleading.

How do you keep the P-38 from opening while it's in your pocket?

Isn't a backpacking kit really just a normal backpack setup for a two week hike without resupply?
