my backpack psk

Isn't a backpacking kit really just a normal backpack setup for a two week hike without resupply?...
I think that will have to be defined. There are those on the extreme that will stay in the wilderness for many weeks to several months. Others put together a kit to keep in a car or boat in case of an emergency. Clearly, a planned kit for a planned excursion will be ideally made based on duration, local, expected weather, etc...

Just got a LM Micra. When closed, it is the size of the closed SAK "classic". An imitation (cheap/poor quality) SAK original came in my SAS survival tin kit. I bought the real SAK. I put it next to my closed Micra. I was surprised to see basically the same exact "footprint". I think I will use the Micra in my mini-survival kit. It has greater function, is the same size, has by far better scissors then any regular sized SAK pocket knife...even better then the scissors on my LM Blast. My tweezer aren't going to get lost either.

Of course, don't have a toothpick with Micra...but sure I can carve one.

Oh, one last thing, LM micra costs me about $15 at military exchange, SAK classic costs around $10...I think the difference is worth it.

I have a Micra, too, but I carry a SAK. Victorinox offers a better fit and finish, in my opinion. Each tool clicks nicely into place. The Micra is too loosey-goosey. The SAK is crisp and tight. But I think there's room enough in this world for the both Micra and the SAK.

I am not sure about the fit when comparing it to the SAK classic in my mini-kit tin can. The micra fits in the identical spot/space as the SAK CLASSIC. I agree with enough room in the world for both...I own both.

I would personally carry the Micra in place of the SAK CLASSIC...in my mini-kits. It obviously does not replace all SAK. But if you really need a scissor and need that limited assortment of tools like that found in the CLASSIC and Micra, the Micra has by far the better and more functional scissors and does have MORE quality tools. In that class of tools and application range, Micra is superior...just my opinion.

It's interesting how personal taste and nuance comes into play here.

When comparing the Leatherman Wave to the Vic SwissTool, forum members have concrete reasons why they prefer one or the other for various tasks. The Wave is much lighter than the SwissTool, buts the SwissTool's tools are sturdier, etc.

When forum denizens discuss the Micra and the SAK, opinions become much more subjective and difficult to pin down. To me, the Micra offers more tools than the SAK classic, but it is heavier than the Classic and its sharper edges wear through fabric faster.

I own both, too, and deciding which to carry can take me longer than deciding which shirt to wear that day.
