Otterbox w/ attached dog tag (name, address, phone number).

Spyderco Jester, Inova Microlight, bandaids, a small permanent marker (red for visibility) wrapped with duct tape and a 5 euro bill. The rubber band that holds the bill in place may also come in handy, as well as the paracord I wrapped the permanent match and some change for public phones with.

Not pictured:
- water purification tablets
- the "commando" wire saw I recently acquired
- prescription-free painkillers
- safety pins

The water purification tablets and the saw are not exactly urban survival items, but the tablets do not take up much space anyway and there was enough space left for the saw, so I went for it.

All that in a ~ 4.8 x 3.7 x 1.7 inch (external dimenions) solid and waterproof box I purchased before I joined the army. Originally got it to protect my cigarettes (it's just big enough to hold a pack) from the elements when in the field, it worked very well for that purpose. By the way, that's the reason why the box still looks a bit dirty, I didn't bother to get the crud out of every little corner. ;)

When you are driving to work and hear on the radio that one of your city water purification plants was compromised and that ALL city water must be considered suspect you won't think those are "wilderness specific."

And yes, I already had a case of bottled water at the office, but still...

That looks pretty cool! I like the plastic box too. Where on the Internet do you recommend I could get an Otter case like that one?

I got it from a vendor in Germany, but googling "Otterbox" gives you a whole lot of dealers that carry them, the model pictured above is the 1000. The plastic is real sturdy and the latch on mine is far from being worn out after countless openings.

Just found this offer (only 6 bucks each). I do not have any experiences with that vendor though.

Here's mine, note that there's a lot of shit you can't really get in europe

There's an OC fogger grenade, knife, and some more various med gear in the pack. it's kinda hidden in the picture though. I also occasionally attach an M3X weaponlight and monadnock exppandable baton.

My "Urban Survival Kit" consists of a $100 bill, a Visa card, a cell phone, a Benchmade AFCK, and an H&K P7. These tools should get you through most problems you're likely to encounter in the modern American urban environment.

Man I've been looking for something like that forever! Any links to where I can find one, in stock? If ebay, please give me a direct link (I hate navigating that site).

Thanks,

Paul

True enough, but your inclusion of a $100 bill intrigues me. Most merchants are reluctant to accept a $50 bill, let alone a $100 bill. From what I've read, the prevailing advice seems to be that we should stockpile bills in lower denominations, preferably ones, fives, and tens. How did you decide upon a $100 bill, rather than, say, five $20 bills? Trying to save on space?

Try here. They provided a shed load for British Blades members. 38 I think? At the time they had 80 odd in stock.

McFeely's was the other place mentioned, but they were out of stock.

Well... to tell the truth, my first boss out of college, the legendary and much-storied "wild" Bill Mealing, told me "Always carry a hundered dollar bill." And, over the years, that has proven good advice.

Your idea of five twenties may be a good enhancement.

When I lived in Nashville, it was important to carry $110. If you were pulled over for drunk driving, you could decline the field breatalizer and demand a hospital blood test, but you had to pay for the blood test youself $110, and you had to pay it in cash. If you could display the cash, then they had to take you to the hospital of your choice (within the county) for your test. Of course, you'd choose the most distant one. It could be upwards of an hour before you actually were tested. Furthermore, you'd tie up an officer and a car for a couple of hours. So, unless they thought you were really smashed, and if you had no record, they'd just drop the matter.

While we're talking about cases I have some questions;

Since I have no way to physically see any pelican/otter cases before purchasing I would like input on which would be good for a backwoods/rural kit. I recently started working way outside of town on the weekends and would like to have a case to keep in my car in case something happens and I can't get back home. What size case would accept the following?

-1911 pistol + 2 Magazines +holster.
-3-Cell surefire light + 9 123 batteries in carrier.
-Large folding knife. (looking at BM 610)

Any thoughts?

Thanks-

Hay there my eastern neighbour Quiet Storm. Nice setup in a even nicer box. But I miss some small items, specially first aid items. Just a emergency-bandage and a few small sticky band-aid don’t take op a lot of space. And think about a micro compass, you never now when you need it even in the city. Put it in the box and you are more prepared then ever.

12 Gauge, you can purchase a pocket wrench from here. Aside from eBay and other online vendors I have yet to see any other place to buy a pocket wrench. I'm kind of surprised they don't sell them (or things similar to them) in Home Depot, Ace Hardward, or the like.

If you get a pocket wrench, let me know how you like it. It has always seemed like a neat tool but I've never bothered to order one.

If you cannot obtain a PocketWrench, consider this small, USA-made ChannelLock 4.5 inch tongue and groove plier instead:

http://www.channellock.com/acb/stores/1/4_5_inch_Tongue_and_Groove_Pli_P112C3.cfm

I bought one for under $10 US at the local Farm & Fleet store and keep it in a pants pocket. It is doesn't weigh much, is less than 5 inches long, and is a good gripper.

You can apply pressure to squeeze things and keep the jaws parallel to each other for excellent grip on a hex nut or other object. It performs better than the pliers on most of my Leatherman tools for these types of tasks.

Sears sells a similar tool, they term a Craftsman ignition plier:

http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/prod...00904513000&subcat=Automotive+Specialty+Tools

but the Craftsman version didn't appear as well made as this ChannelLock.
