I want to give a small giveaway for my 1000th post. Here are the rules:

I want you to post a picture of something you have built or used for survival that was made from rubbish.

Anything you have made from the waste of other humans (a trap, a improvised blade - anything).

Explain what you did and post pictures up - I will pick what I think is the best - and if I cannot I will narrow it down to the best and simply pick one from a hat!

Here is what you get!

One custom Ferro stick:

I will make up a custom Fob for the winner - per his or her specs.

One steel bobbin with spyderwire wrapped on it (for PSK - about 50 feet).

And one Altoids tin to start a cool PSK.

Thanks - and what a great forum!

Wow man, cool giveaway! I love making my stuff from other 'junk'. I'll try and find something I've got that more creative than a coffee can billy pot! :D

I'm in buddy!

I made these 2 years ago........

The striker was made from an broken file my neighbor gave me and the pouch was made from an old toolbelt that I quite litterally pulled from the garbage.

The striker now resides in N. Carolina and the pouch in Alabama. They were gifted to some people who contributed to a site I administrate...

Very cool idea for a give away. I've made a few different things like this while out in the woods. I chose one that falls into the improvised blade category. I was camping on the shore of Lake Michigan, and I found a heavy plastic drinking cup that had washed up on shore. The plastic was fairly thick and the cup was already cracked, so I decided to see what sort of blade type implements I could fabricate. I ended up with a few pieces that could have served as arrowheads, a few smaller pieces that had a decent edge, and then this piece. I wrapped a little bit of duct tape around the base and then wrapped it with paracord to make a handle. It has a passible edge on it (I sharpened it on a rock), but is much more suited as a stabbing insturment, and due to the curved nature of the piece it easily fastens to a shaft to serve as a spear point. I've never really used it for much, I just keep it on my shelf as a curio, but I think it fits the bill for the contest, so here it is.

I reuse my vegetable scraps throughout the year and also my grass clippings in the fall to compost for my garden. We try and sustain ourselves throughout spring/summer/fall with veggies and herbs from our garden. I'm in the process of trying to come up with a way to have things growing year round.

I really like the idea of not having to through away things that would not other wise decompose sitting around in a plastic bag in the land fill.

My goal is to be able to take in other people's scraps to use as compost.

OsageBow004.jpg

The little panobscot bow was made from oak flooring that I tour out of a hose for a remodeling. The knife was a lief spring in a former life. The arrow heads were saw blades, as was the necker. the gorget was a door plate.

I like the diversity of these posts - thanks for entertaining my contest.

I will give it another week - and then choose a winner.

Thanks again,

TF

How funny! I literally just whipped up this little thing out of a bean half-can! It burned for an hour and fifteen minutes with one cm of charcoal lighter fluid in the bottom of it.

Barber,

Thanks for bumping me. It saved me searching for it. I have modified the rules slightly.

Rule #1) Rick (Magnussen) gets a firesteel no matter what. I loathe the man to the fibre of his being and because he this - he gets some cool shit. Drop me your address Rick - and I will send you off a Aluminum Capped firesteel - you get to make the lanyard - I would do paracord for you - but it may bust up your throw back style. Also - you can simply put it on a key chain. Thanks for the help with the bow drill brother.

Rule #2) No one looses. Everyone gets something damn it. I have other smaller wooden fire steels (three of them) and some larger dudes - so everyone gets something.

Rule #3) Everything was bad assed. From the plastic knife (loved it) to the can-dle (get it!), to the leaf spring oak handled knife (TOUGH!). (Frankly the only thing that did not inspire me was Rick's crap... I mean... look at it... I am sending him some kit because I get a tax break for helping the mentally unstable... don't tell him).

Everyone that is not a "winner" below - send me your address and I will send you some kit!

The "winner" is MYRIGHT as picked randomly by lovely wife! I am glad she picked yours too - she fancies herself as a gardener - had I let her look through this thread (she honestly could care less) she would have picked yours! Drop me your address - and I will send you out an Aluminum capped Firesteel - ;ick me some colors and I will make you a fob if you want one!

Thanks for the cool board, the cool forum, and for being cool people that I like to associate myself with.

Thanks, TF..... I think.....

He he... that "mentally unstable thing" got me chuckling a bit as I sat here by myself... then my wife yells out from the other room... "What are you laughing at.... you sound like a crazy guy!"..... Ha ha ha... You may get that tax break after all, brother.

PM sent...
Rick

Thanks dude. I think I know your sense of humor is like mine. If it isn't offensive - it likely isn't funny.

Thanks for the motivation. I will get it in the mail soon.
