Recently introduced to the world of benchmade - and having lots of fun.
I absolutely love my 940. 960 (13960, actually) is not bad, but the 940 fits my hand better.

Eyeballing all sorts of other benchmades - just wondering - what should I get next?
a few thoughts:
I appreciate form and design the most. Value too. Weight under 5oz, under 4oz preferred. blade up to about 3.5in

950 - gorgeous, but bigger than I would probably carry. the 940 (length) is about as long as I can do comfortably.
746 - the Lum's feel great in the hand.
710 - everyone needs (at least) one, right? again, a bit bigger than I was thinking though.
707? seems close to the 960 in size.
915? everyone needs a safety knife. One for my car, one for the wife's car...

or just get another 940:thumbup:

let me know your choice, and why please.
thanks.

and by the way - I know 2 knives hardly qualifies as a bender... but I am still going;)

The Rift, Sequel, Presidio and Triage are all excellent knives, which i recommend. The Sequel is the smoothest folder I've ever handled and the Triage is ingenious. The Presidio oozes toughness with its all-metal construction. The Rift is a very robust knife too with great ergonomics.

I totally understand your addiction to Benchmades...they rock!

so basically, you are saying... yes to everything. I already knew that:p

Why not go for a 943? I carried a 943 for several years; later I bought a 940 and ending up hating the reverse tanto tip.

The 707 is one of my all time favorite knives so I'd get that one next. I started out with the 705 and love that knife as well but they discontinued that one and replaced it with the 707. I like the blade shape of the 707 best and the handle of the 705 so I would LOVE to see BM make this knife but... I also own two 710's, one I picked up in 1998 or 1999 I can't remember but it was soon after they first came out. I love these knives for the bigger tasks and outdoor type uses. I also have the 940 which you already know is a fantastic knife so no reason to continue here. I have really been thinking of picking up a 915 myself but having handled one in my local store they are pretty heavy. I just don't think I would carry it that much but it is a very well made knife and I don't think you could go wrong with anything from BM.
To sum up, get the 707 then the 710.

what did you hate about the reverse tanto? I like that it has a decent belly (unlike a normal tanto).

I love the Rift. It has a lot of blade length for how long the handle is. Close to a 1:1 ratio it seems though not quite. I don't find it that big myself and carry it every single day in my front right pocket. Maybe take a look at the smaller Bone collector as well.

The reverse tanto tip increases the width of the blade near the tip, while the 943's modified clip point tapers gradually all the way to the tip. The 943 slices better.

Though discontinued, they can still be found with a little searching, and that is the H&K 14205, and it's smaller brother the 14210. These are a Snody design and have Axis lock's. Though I don't have one, I'm looking at a couple and trying to decide how to fit them in before year's end!

Why not try something totally different? The Bedlam is one beast of a knife. I think it's my favorite blade shape that Benchmade has produced. It feels smaller than it is. Also, the 581 is a great looking and feeling knife. A bit on the chunky side, but it really feels substantial in your hand and the assist gives a great kick. I find that both carry well. Another favorite of mine is the Dejavoo. It's discontinued but there are some mini's still around and finding the larger one should be pretty easy. It's slender and totally disappears in your pocket. I tried out the large Bone Collector, but returned it because the handle is very fat. The walnut grips really look good though. Of all of them, the Rift is my favorite for EDC. It really doesn't seem like that large of a knife to me. Just right. Plus, the layered G-10 scales look really good. As Cutter17 mentioned, the H&K 14210 is an awesome smaller knife. For a folder just under the 3" mark, you absolutely cannot go wrong with it. Blade handle ratio is nearly perfect too. The H&K 14205 is great too. It's just about the exact same size as the Rift.

thanks for all your perspectives.
Here's the plan - first a rift (thanks flamtnbkr and draggat).
Next the 707 sequel - thanks War Eagle
Then round out the collection with the 943 - thanks cynic2701 and tim616
I will save the bedlam for a dark, cold night.

will look into the 530 and the 14210 as well.
Looks like the first response from propthepolecat was right after all - just get them all...

I have several Benchmades, my favourites are the Warn Barage and 755 Mini Pocket Rocket. Both outstanding fit and finish. And just that little bit different from the rest.

Why buy more Benchmades when you can get a Sebenza? ;)

....someone had to say it. Seriously though, I really like my 741 Onslaught so i'd vote for the 746. I actually am thinking of getting one myself because the one gripe I have about the full size one is that the blade is too thin (IMO anyway). So I'm thinking it'd be more appropriately "proportioned" on the mini. The 710 is also a must buy. It is on the larger size but its worth having at least once.

You're gonna love the 950 rift. I've heard it called a 940 on steroids. Sounds about right to me. It opens and closes just as fast as the 940, but it's a better slicer because the blade is wider and that G-10 is beautiful. I highly recommend the layered G-10 version. It's very unique looking. The satin plain edge is my choice, although the blade is more non-reflective than traditional satin finish. It looks better longer because it hides scratches well.

There is one negative about this knife but it's an extremely easy fix. The edges of the scales on the scalloped areas are very sharp. To remedy this, I sanded the edges with a black emory board which costs about $1.50 at the drug store. 15 minutes later, it's nice and smooth with no sign of modification. This is one of my overall favorite knives. I hope you enjoy it!

If you get the chance, I'd grab one of the LE 806s in M390. An alternative is the LE 520 in M4. They cost a little more than some others, but wont be around for ever and are definately upgrades. The 710 in M390 may also be a good option and it's priced fairly.
Come to think of it, there's also a LE 940 available right now too if you want a lighter weight option. And there's a 525 in M4 too.

I am going to hijack my own thread.
Would you rather buy 3 benchmades, or 1 sebenza?
I can try, but will never have them all... maybe it is time to step up another notch?

Sebenzas are nice for sure, but to me, I'd take three, or so, Benchmades. Also, if it matters to you, some of those LE Benchmades will be valued at the price of a Seb in 6 months to a year. There's already a few 806s on ebay above $300, and they're still for sale. The value will only go up from there over time. And even if you get the Benchmade as a user, it'll still be all the knife you need and bring you plenty of joy.
Another option is to wait the the 275, which will also have a limited version with a black handle. Either way, you can't really go wrong though, and if the Seb is callin you, go for it. But, keep in mind they'll always be around, the LE Benchmades wont be avalible at regular prices for long.
