My Best of the Best of the Best

Straight razor would probably be most efficient/effective. But a nice knife makes
it more fun.

A straight razor would never survive cutting cardboard. If the blade didn't break immediately, it would suffer irreparable edge-damage. It's sharp, so in theory it would cut well, but steel just isn't up to the task.

I remember being a little urchin and "borrowed" an antique straight razor from the family warehouse. I was out slashing little green leaves. It only took two or three swipes to break the blade. Didn't even hit a hard branch or anything. :(

My wife opens 100's of boxes every day at work. Yes the razor knife is the best tool for the job. It is also the only knife that they are allowed to use.:D

I'm sorry but a statement like this kind of Pisses me off...Those boxes are NOT free. They are paid for by tax payer ( me ) money. Its a great service that USPS offers and since the postal service is constantly running in the red. I think that it is a distinct possibility that the Post office will start charging for these Priority Boxes to keep Bozos like the OP from taking boxes for "Free" to play cut boxes with my knife game.....stupid..

Spot on, Ren, Spot on. I was getting ready to post something very similar. Nothing we receive from the government is free, it is paid for by the hardworking men and women who pay taxes in this country. Free, what a load of crap.

Additionally this round one is not a level playing field or FAIR if you will, which I think should be banned from the world wide vocabulary but thats another post. Anyway your proposing to use multiple blades while you allow your contestant only one. Forget the sharp maker, strop, edge pro or whatever. How about a straight heads up, you with one fresh out of the box razor blade and one knife of choice freshly sharpened?

Since the Post Office is not funded by the taxpayer, but derives its revenue by charging for goods and services, the Priority Mail boxes are damn well not free. The price is included in the charge for sending Priority Mail.
In fact.. isn't it illegal to use them for other stuff? (thought I saw that somewhere?)
BTW....
Seriously... dude? a high quality razor and a strop would kick your ass. You can strop a blade faster than you can change a blade.

All I need is a flamethrower with no refills and I'll get the job done way faster and you won't have any leftover crap to throw away.

I believe it is illegal to order a bunch of new boxes from USPS and use them for anything other than USPS priority shipping. Used boxed are a different matter.

Not true. There are many utility knives that have quick release. Push a button, or slide it open and change the blade. Can be done in 5 seconds.

It is still not the point of the thread ...

Not quite cutting ... but I guess gets the job done :) Too bad cardboard can't be recycled in this case...

Your knife was designed to be sharpened. My utility knife was designed to be used with replaceable blades. Seems fair to me.... :)

I believe the taxpayer does subsidize the Post Office. They are much more efficient then they were but still not enough to be self sufficient.
.

effer right on ,its sad but too many in the forum are too serious to immediately grasp the humor which was immediately apparent.some ca'nt even get it when you explain the jest.

Nobody "grasped the humor" because the post wasn't funny. It wasn't clever. It wasn't insightful. It wasn't layered with deep meaning. It was, in other words, a failure.

At least the responses were amusing in that they illustrated the shortcomings of communicating on a message board.

The OP made what I consider to be an insightful point, namely, that a $5 utility knife with replaceable blades is better than a high-end knife with fancy-pants steel for cutting up a ton of cardboard boxes. You wouldn't know that from some posts in other threads...

That isn't insightful -- it's obvious. This is why the original post was such an utter failure. It isn't exactly an Earth-shattering bulletin to most of the members of this forum that a disposable razor-blade knife is the right tool for the job of cutting large quantities of cardboard, a medium that will dull a knife notoriously quickly.

Yes, box cutters are very good at cutting boxes. I use my knife for a lot more than cutting boxes.

I had a job where I had to break down 70 boxes per day for recycling. I almost never had to cut any cardboard to accomplish this. I had to cut the tape on the bottom of the cardboard box to break it down to a flat shape. Tape is messy. I used a box cutter and replaced the blade about once a week.

When I have a pile of boxes at home that need diminishing, I just take my Laredo Bowie and slice 'em to bits. It's so much more fun to use than a box cutter. For workplace something else may fit better. :D
