My BK-15 Mods WIP (New Sheath Pics Post 30)

WOW! Wouldn't have ever believed the BK15 could look THAT good! I mean, it is a sharp lookin' knife right outta the box. But DANG Randy!
I would be tempted to do something like that myself, but I guar-an-TEE I would screw-up the swedge beyond all hope. Even with a nice sanding set-up like you have.

I MIGHT try to strip mine, but most likely I'll just let the coating wear off like I'm doing with my BK2 and BK9.

Thanks, Rockspyder. if you can build a wooden kayak from scratch, you can do this. Just don't go coarser than 220 grit, use a rigid sanding block/bar and let the block "Find" the flat on the swedge. And stripping is the easy part; let the chemicals do the work.

Sanding the scratches out of a factory ground Becker/KABAR is a piece of cake compared to sanding them out of one of my blades, lol.

Sounds like good advice. Something I can do once it starts looking too ratty with use for my tastes. It would be like getting a whole new knife!

Got my sheath finished last night, dried in the dehydrator overnight and stained it this morning. It turned out okay but the stain streaked a little. (I hate Tandy Eco-FLo all in one)

Anyway, I'm happy with it and it will see camp duty for 4 days next weekend at the South Core Banks of NC next weekend.

The hatchet is a Plumb Boy Scout hatchet I picked up over the weekend at an antique mall in a $40 bucket of tools after 30-45 minutes of cleanup. The bucket contained 4 old planes, the BSA hatchet, a carpenter's hatchet like new but no haft, a machete (which my son immediately claimed as his own), an old wood carving chisel, a drilling brace and several bits, and several old files and teh biggest double cut bastard file I've ever seen, probably 18" long. I think i did okay. :)
