My BK-16 - Work in Progress

Thanks guys. This is the first knife I have ever tried doing anything like this with. I usually do nothing more than strip the coating if there is one and make a new sheath so this was a new one for me.

I actually did not expect the patina to turn out as well as it did. I was pretty convinced that my flame pattern would not translate in to anything resembling flames... Regardless, it turned out better than expected and I am looking forward to see how it evolves with use and age.

More updates to follow.

I'm not a regular on this sub-forum but had to add my $.02. Fantastic job!

Did you add color to the stimpiling, if that's the right term, or is the difference in shade purely due to the difference in texture? Great work and I'm looking forward to your sheaths.

Thanks you!

In regards to the stippling, I did indeed add color to it. It was mostly an experiment on my part. A lot of folks will use nail polish or crayons to fill in words/markings on firearms in particular to give them a bit of color or "pop". I have never done that myself but wanted to use the same concept for the stippling.

My daughter got a kick out of me asking her for her nail polish so while I worked on my knife scales, she sat next to me and did her nails. The effect is more subdued than I was expecting which is a good thing, the polish is a rather bright shade of red... I expect it will hold up pretty well with use and even if it doesn't, it won't be that big of deal.
