My Blade Show experience 2013....you gotta know what you want..

Great to have met you and imbibed a bit with the rest of The Wrecking Crew, had an exceptional time that I wouldn't have traded for the World.

STeven don't call those lovely ladies such bad names and Gavin was only being kind. He had nothing but proper intentions :)

Peeps from the company had bolted Saturday night, so I had the time to walk the show and catch up any last minute business. Took Dan Delavan from Plaza Cutlery to lunch, and was back on the floor to pick up my consignment knives from Louis Chow. Tables start to bang it up early on Sunday if they have nothing left to sell. By 2:00 pm the floor is pretty much a ghost town.

At 2:00 p m, they started rolling up the carpet, and Blade Show 2103 was officially over. Helped Matt schlep some stuff to his car, and walked down to the pit to show off my Pena and chat with Bruce Barnett, his hair and Mike Zscherny about the knife and their thoughts.

While we were on the lunch line for Jack and Jill's average food on Saturday, got the chance to show it to Tony Bose, who's only negative was that he was a traditionalist and did not offer half-stops on a Sowbelly. Other than that, his review was extremely favorable. Mike and Bruce said the knife was just about perfect. Dave Lisch, Jason and I had some drinks and up walks The Reaper, Bill Burke, offering some of his moonshine, trying to collect the soul through the colon. It is a very unsettling feeliing, having the poison run through your digestive tract.

Over the course of an hour and a half it burned slowly, as we did indeed make our way to Folks restaurant. It was originally called Po' Folks or some crap, but they had to drop it due to the PC way of things. Be that as it may, I ordered three proteins-fried chicken breast, meatloaf and butterflied fried shrimp, and three sides-corn nuggets(deep fried creamed corn), a salad and beans. The salad was good, the corn nuggets suprisingly good, and pretty much everything else sucked...especially the meatloaf.:barf: The Romanian waitress made everyone guess where she was from, and thought she was funny. I wanted her to go away....incredibly annoying, but the boys told me she had a hot butt....and they liked her. Won't be going back to Folks in this lifetime. The company was good, even great, so that will be missed, but it is as much about the food as the company with me, and life is too short to eat crap food.

Got some Tagamet on the way back to the hotel, and that calmed the storm. Got to hang out with everyone that was still around back at the pit. Had a particularly good conversation with Haley D about poetry, food and smoked fish. I give her a ration of crap, telling her she is more man than me(right true), but she is simply an amazing person, and anyone who gets to spend time with Haley is better for it.

The Gorilla Squad went up to the room to watch the Red Wedding, but my wife and I watch it together and that is that.

Got to say goodbye to a lot of friends, and went up to the room to pack and catch up with minor chores, in bed at 2:30am , up at 6:00 for the flight back to SoCal.

Shared a cab and breakfast with Hank Greenberg from Microtech and my Blade show was pretty much over. Overall, according to F+W, this was the most highly attended Blade yet, and all the vendors that I spoke with had their best show yet, and people were very happy. Thanks to all my dear friends and acquaintances, this was an excellent show for me as well.

Thanks for keeping up with this, and hope to see you all in the very near future.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

STeven you really are a talented writer. I felt like I was there. Looking forward to more.

STeven, always a pleasure to see you at a show, always a pleasure to read your account afterwards. You never disappoint. I have not attended that many in Atlanta, first one was in '07, but there just seemed to be a better overall feel about this year's Blade. Everyone I visited with during the show seemed to be in a good groove.

Thanks for taking the time to share.

Great write up, Steven! Very good to see ya buddy!

Thanks for bring that box of wood to Kyle, he was stoked...

Enjoying this thread STeven. You do a wonderful job with your reviews, covering not only the events and the knives, but also the people who make it all come together. And likewise it was great to finally spend some quality time together. I'm not sure exactly where we left off but I'll gladly buy the next Jack & Coke.

Oh, and sorry that shine didn't agree with you but washing it down with fried roadkill at Folks' wasn't exactly the best idea either. Live and learn.

Thanks for chiming in Derrick!(Captain and Coke:thumbup:, I think you have next round. When I drink beer, my guts swell up and I wind up crapping like I drank....uh....moonshine:()

How was I supposed to know everything including tomatoes was fried at Folks, I usually go to nice restarants?...restaurants that at least serve beer and wine. No, this disaster falls squarely on Mr. Diskin's broad shoulders....love him dearly.....question his taste in restaurants(not usually warranted) regularly.

Best Regards,

STevie, now that the smoke has cleared and this thread is winding dow, let me step in and reaffirm how PROUD I am of you and your three wayward brothers. Yeah, three, we have added Mattie D. to the mix 'cause I love him too. At my age, time flies by, but it still seems a long time off until we are together again next year at Blade.

Thanks for your friendship, the write up and everything else that makes you Stevie.

Best Regards also

Paul

Nice review Steven, sounds like everyone had a good time. Hope I get to spend more time there next year.

Great review as usual, STeven. FYI, Po' Folks still exists elsewhere. The ones in Georgia were very early franchisees, I first ate at one in 1980. I think they had some kind of falling out with the folks who bought the chain in the 1980's and decided not to renew, but kept the restaurants open under the new name.

Good show review Steven! It is always the best "what happened at Blade" report.
David
