My BladeForum Anniversary Giveaway

I’m going to draw this one to a close tomorrow so I can get the winner’s info and ship on Tuesday. Still a few more hours to enter yourself or a friend.

Congrats on your walk-off victory, PJohn! ;):thumbsup:

Thanks for the generous and entertaining GAW, Joshua!:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool: I hope this is the first of many Porch anniversaries for you. :)

...
Your baseball memories are all excellent choices! In fact, hearing so many great stories makes we want to tell my own baseball stories, but I'll save those for the end of the GAW.
...

Are we still going to read some of your favorite baseball memories now that the GAW is over??

I've got time to type out one baseball story (the best one for me). Back in 2006 I had a chance to visit one of my roommates who was staying in Dallas for the summer, doing some work with his brother. He had managed to snag four tickets to a Rangers game against the Astros (July 1st, 2006). He was interested in one of the girls from our Reformed University Fellowship group who lived in the Dallas area, and he had invited her to go with us along with another one of our RUF friends. It turns out that this other friend also had four tickets to the game and had been trying to get some of her girl friends to go with her, to no avail. She really wasn't interested in going, but it was her first summer in Dallas (she had just graduated) and she hadn't been able to be around folks she new much at all, so she offered for us to join her and use her tickets (much better seats--third base line, about ten rows up).

Since my roommate was interested in the other girl, he managed to get a seat next to her, so I sat next to our ticket-providing friend. We had been acquaintances for the last two years of her school career as part of RUF (I was a graduate student, so I wasn't always around the undergraduate events) and our local church. So we ended up watching this entire baseball game together. Turns out she wasn't much of a baseball fan, so I spent some of the time telling her what to look for and explained what was happening. It ended up being one of the most memorable games of the year in baseball because of this:

But besides that amazing catch, all I remember is that we talked about each other the whole time and discovered that we had a whole lot in common. When I went back to College Station after the weekend I asked the RUF minister and his wife whether this girl would be a good person for me to date, and they basically said I'd be stupid if I didn't date her. A little over a year later we got married and have been so for the past 11 years.

Great story, Joshua.
(By the way, the Astros won 7-0. ;) ⚾️)
