You're missing maps. You're also missing a mending kit with needles and threads. Small GPS might not be bad, either, if you wish to go high-tech.

Don't be offended, but bible + one novel? Those weight a lot and can hardly be considered survival means. If you cannot imagine spending a few days without a bible, what novel do you consider impossible to survive without?

What's "TP"?

Let me check, you have a fixed blade, one folder, one SAK, and a mutli-tool? I would likely drop two of them, or substitute scissors for one of them and drop one. I know, this is a blade forum, and such thoughts could be considered heresy, but I am concerned with weight in the survival kit.

tp is toilet paper...i do have a small GPS in there....your right, i think i have too many knives /multitools. maybe 1 Fb 1 folder and 1 multitool are better.

i just weighed my bible: 5oz..... positive mental/spiritual attitude can be very beneficial in stressful/bail out situations...but YMMV.

the novel is also 4oz. a little escapism is also beneficial....at least to me :D

but thanks for the advice....i do need to be more aware of the weight issue!

Bill

PS..........forgot to mention that this is a urban/suburban situation.

If your carryng all that gear- ditch the books and invest in a bivvy bag - it could save your life.

whats a bivvy bag....and how could it save my life?

i weighed my BOB: 14lbs..........thats not too much for me to carry on my back for a few miles.
i'm 6 foot 215lbs.

You'll get no quarrel from me, but perhaps it is time to work on memorization exercises, so you can quote passages from memory (you can also amuse and amaze your friends that way ;)).

To be honest, I cannot imagine a survival pack without water. I know it's heavy, but it's the first thing that will get you if you don't have it.

As for the eating utensils, you already have a knife, and you can easily fashion a pair of chopsticks in the field (you can even take chopsticks into your pack, as they likely weigh a fraction of normal utensils).

I didn't notice, did you have a space blanket there? It is light (compared to poncho), and could come in handy.

i do have a space blanket....just forgot to list it.

but thanks for the suggestion!

i do have a canteen of water. and my small overnight rolling luggage carries the extra water and clothing

i never heard of quoting bible passages for amusement.

A bivvy- bag is a cocoon shaped 'bag' that is a single person waterproof shelter. They are like a sleeping bag but without the insulation - it's like a mini tent. You generally use one in conjunction with a sleeping bag. They are light and fold up small so they are an ideal emergency shelter to protect from wind and rain.

Don't listen to him.^

Survival is as much mental as it is physical. If it takes a bible and a novel to keep you in good spirits and get you to wake up another day, then by all means.

I would add bug repellent, maybe a mosquito headnet, pair of wool socks and watchcap, and replace iodine with katadin micropur tablets (kills stuff iodine won't).

What do you envision using the wrecking bar for? Depending on how small it is, your FB knife may work in a pinch (flamesuit-ON!)

Don't forget the CCW permit! :)

I don't know about the rolling luggage. Sure water is heavy but now you need to carry it in an unluggage case over rough terrain, or when you need to move fast. I don't think you can run (and I mean RUN, not walk fast) with a bag rolling behind you. Seems it would but more a hinderence.

You asked because someting didn't feel right. I think this is it.

Edit to add: food other than energy bars. You'll want at least one decent meal if you are traveling.
BTW, I'm more of a hole-up-at-home type.

clint you're absolutely right....BUT... i also cant run with an additional 20lbs of water on my back!!
so i dont know what the solution is for having water with me.

there doesn't seem to be a perfect answer.

dont forget that this is an urban/suburban locale.

i'm thinking i might be able to set up a base of operations in an abandoned building and keep my luggage there. or am i just fantasising??

Burncycle....WHAT? use my FB for prying?? that will get you flamed:D :D

Consider this. You can add a five gallon water container if you wish, and it will go places your tiny wheeled luggage won't go. You can pack in a large capacity backpack, and cover it with a rain cover. It folds flat to stash it too.

Using a cart, you don't have to carry anything on your back, and you could adapt it to a padded waist belt for pulling. They are built for offroad use, and have a capacity of about 300#.

How about some insulation? A double stuffed down coat and or sleeping bag comes to mind. This in my environment would be much higher up the list than food.

Even with a great GPS, take a good map or maps of the area you'll be traveling, they don't take batteries and they're always on. The first thing a BOB needs is a destination, otherwise stay at home.

My bug-out transport is a truck and then a bike. You can carry quite a bit on a bike with the right accessories and better, you can move faster on wheels. Speed is Life.

Misc ideas.

- whistle

- water-purification pills or filter might replace some of your 20 lbs of water and/or provide a margin of safety beyond that 20 lbs.

You are talking about this being a urban BOB but you carry a GPS?? A small Silva or Sunnto compass is much lighter and doesn't need batteries that you could be using for your radio.

Lose one of the radios but make sure the one you keep is high quality, a BOB is no place to skimp.

For your novel make it one that will get your brain thinking, something by Robert A. Heinlein.

If no pistol then look into a compact batton or sturdy walking stick 36-46". I prefer a batton 24-28".
