So i figure this should prob go in the gallery, but i don't post there much. I figure if i ask what ya'll think of it then it will be OK to post it here. He's 6 yrs old and for a couple years now we make wooden weaponry, rifles, pistols, swords and knives. My favorite wooden one is posted in the gallery as maple Damascus, it's made from spalted maple and has a Damascus like pattern.

Any way i ordered some 01 and he was really aching to get his hands on some. so i told him draw me a picture of a small knife and we'll go with it. well needless to say it was a nice little skinner, or whatever ya call it.

I ban sawed out the blank, he picked out the scales, drilled the holes, did some hand sanding on blade and handle after i ground them, and he kept me company while i heat treated. The hardest part of all was getting him to be patient while i tempered the blade in the oven. Probably the longest hour of the little guy's life. anyway here is his 15. min of fame i said I'd get him.

His name is john noah takach, by the way. any bits of encouragement will be e-mailed directly to him. (well his mom, but he'll get the messages.)

p.s. the pic of my son , is with my mentor Tim Nolfi , career knife maker and dear friend , in his shop this past winter.

that's a nice knife. I'm planning something similar for my first knife with wooden handle (have done a few rr spike knives). Pass the word of a good job onto your son.

ya know bd4 he'll never forget that hammer in either, i think that was the only time he actually saw ya and that was like 4 years ago, or something. he still associates bruce = that guy w/ a beard that scared me.

oh yeah he's already picked out blood wood for the next one, i mean i no longer fish cause i gotta untangle lines, and take fish off the hook. and when i hunt alot of the times i dont see nutt'en cause he's digging holes or making piles of sticks and leaves next to my hunting seat.

AAAAAAAAAAAhhhh i guess i dont get to make knives myself anymore , damn that was the last thing i had for me.

The fact that while making the knife today, he was singing "buckaroo", made it worth it all though. i dont know if any of ya listen to country music but if ya do you'll know what i mean!!!

Man, enjoy every minute of time you get to spend sharing a hobby with you son! He'll remeber it forever and so will you. That is a beautiful 1st knife!

he says thanks to all!! i even had his mom online checking out the forum, and she was pleased to hear all the positive and encouraging responses.

thank you
andy

I like the choil like design on that. I should do something similar on my son's sheath knife. I made him a little necker and a kitchen knife.

Leif isn't quite up to helping much, yet. Looks like you have a pretty talented apprentice to work with
