My Broken Skull

I haven't looked for one for years, but when I was a kid and used to put together car models, they had paint pens for painting them. One of those in black would probably do the job well too.

They still have those. I bought one from a local Meijer (supermarket) store a couple years ago after crashing my motorcycle. They were DuPont color-matched and in the automotive section but basically the same things you can find in the model paint area, might have been right next to each other even. Might be a good option for those that really hate the lettering but like the blade design and wand to color it in.

Austin did not design the knife. It’s a reboot of the Lone Star Hunter.

I’d like to see a reboot of the Mackinac Hunter in the mold of the Broken Skull.
I've had 2 and I'm a big fan. I always have to mention, "stupid name, great design." It has made a great yard work knife and handles camping trips fairly well too. It's a whole lot of blade in a small package, kind of like a working man's BM 943.

I recommended a smaller version a while back on the "what would you like to see from Cold Steel in 2018" thread (post 130). I think a 3.5" or even 3.25" would be a little nicer for EDC purposes, even though I'm limited to 3" carry where I work. 4" length can just be a bit long in the pocket when sitting down and standing up a lot in the office for me (assuming I could carry it but it does limit it's carry around the house).

The value on the broken skull is also amazing, I don't know a knife in that price range with as good of steel, weight, ease of carry, and ergos. The endura is probably close but I prefer the linerless G10 and cts-xhp a good bit over the endure and the ergos are better. I also think the endure is ugly by comparison. I don't know many other knives that are just that good for what the knife is achieving.

I think the only regret I have is that I don't own an orange one yet to go with my excessively expanding collection of orange handled knives. The blue and OD green are pretty great looking though and the coated blade has held up better than expected to cutting up wood, vines, digging mushrooms, and other random tasks.

+1 I had to sell the one I had because I could not get over the stupid logo. And the fact that Steve Austin supposedly designed the knife when we know it was A.D.
