My brother wants to borrow a knife for pig sticking...

I wouldn't worry too much about your brothers health...

Without dogs his chance of sneaking up on one to knife distance is pretty much ZERO! If he should get close enough I can't imagine how he is going to stick it and have it stay around. 150lbs of feral pig is strong AND FAST!

There is a reason why their numbers are exploding, they are smart and HARDY. Also he won't just be sneaking up on one as at that size they will usually be in a group.

Just my thoughts... maybe he will get it done.

Sneaking up on a true wild pig is all but impossible. You may have to hunt every weekend for years before you get an opportunity to get close enough to a 'sleeping' boar. It's hard enough to get within archery distance of them...let alone closing the last 30 yards on your hands and knees in brush tunnels while the pigs sleeps.

This sounds like one of those high fenced "hunting" ranches. Hand fed pigs will let you come close enough to freeblade.

I have once ran down a 30lber in a pasture. But never once have gotten within grabbing distance of a pig that didn't have a dog velcro'd to each ear. I have a friend that "freebladed" 2 big mature boars without any dogs present, both times the dogs were driving the pig through thick brush and my friend was on the trail, the boars had no choice but to run right by him. Both took a swipe as he grabbed an ear and leg. He uses a cheap Kabar ripoff with black rubber handle for anyone that cares. I have another friend that grabbed a big boar by the ears until the dogs got there to help him out. These guys hunt every single weekend for the last 10 years and these are the only tales I've heard.

Tell him good luck though, and make sure you get photos from him and put them up here. Im curious to see how it'll turn out.

The reason fellas that chase pig with knives use dogs is;
1. To run the pig till it gets cranky and decides to turn and fight
2. hold the pig ( normally by the ears) while you get in behind him,
remember the front is the bitey end.
If he plans to sneak up on the pigs I to wouldn't worry to much.
But maybe he might want to get some practice climbing trees just in case.
