eobrien,
you can get a whole lotta knife for $110...try narrowing down your search a little. do you want traditional folder, a high speed tactical model with pocket clip, something in between? how long of a blade, what shape blade, serrations or no...all these are good questions as well.

some of the most favored low cost knives seem to be:

Spyderco Endura and Delica
Camillus EDC
Benchmade Griptilian

if you can, i would suggest finding a store that carries the knives you are interested in so you can actually get your mitts around them. many times i've been convinced that i needed this or that great new knife until i actually saw the thing in person and found out that it was way too big or too small or had some sharp edge that dug into my hand. no matter how good a knife is(or gun or whatever), if it doesn't fit your hand it's not the knife for you.

have fun in your search,
e.

save up $30 and get a emerson SOCFK, they cost $139.95, and wilderness extreme pays the shipping in the con USA. imho one of the best knives around today, excellent ergonomics, SP/tanto blade available, looks like a spec war w/a CQC7 blade, i love mine, a green G10 handle black tanto blade, it rocks. one of the FEW knives i have had no, zero, nada, negative thought about it since i opened the box. AND its waved!! the cheapest waved emerson, other than a CQC7, get one, ya WONT regret it!!!!!!!

better than a AFCK, and thats saying something to me!! the AFCK has LONG been my fav production, but the SOCFK blows it away.

i dont have the EM handy, but if ya wanna order one, EM me and i'll find the addy for ya

good luck!

A Buck PCKS 110 with BG42 or ATS34. Your choice of wood, bone, stag, etc for the scales (to stay below $110, you'll need to go with wood or bone).

A bit tarnished, but you get the idea...

Lotta knife and a true classic.

Chris

Go with the buck 110, i have a PCKS 110 with BG-42 and Indigo royalwood handles, its the best folder i have ever owned.

Without knowing what you're going to use it for, I second the suggestion of a Benchmade Griptilian, a great general-purpose configuration. You can get large or small, plain edge or partially serrated, either of two different blade shapes, and the little ones come in different handle colors. The price is way inside your budget, too.

You can get the Benchmade 806D2 Axis-lock HERE for $106.25 or blow your budget by $8.75 and get a 710HS Axis lock in M2 tool steel for $118.75. I'm trying to decide which one to buy.

Oso Grande Knife & Tool Company also has a few Spyderco Calypsos left in your price range. It's a great looking VG-10 and Micarta 4" lockback for $106. LINK I like it better than the Police or Military, but you can get those in your price range, too. Good luck :)

I'll give another vote for the Benchmade AFCK Axis Lock. I just got mine yesterday so I am by no means an expert on this knife. That being said, it is one of the few knives that I can honestly say has everthing done right. The handle is one of the most comfortable designs with G-10 sides. The overall blade design is such that it can do all sorts of tasks. D2 steel is very stong and one of my favorite metals. I love "thumb holes" over "thumb studs". Although the look of a hole isn't always as appealing as a thumb stud, but Benchmade did it right with the "oval" design, looks great. Axis lock = awsome (smooth, strong, and reliable)great overall package in this knife.

If you don't like the look of the AFCK, my next choice would be the Benchmade 710, another great design. I would spend the extra $$$ and get the M2 tool steel version.

Some other designs to look at that are great knives:
Spyderco Endura (work horse of clip knives)
Cant go wrong with anything from Spyderco
Camillus EDC (great Every Day Cary hence the name, good lock)

I've got the Greco Raptor, his hawksbill folder. This is as tough a knife as I have ever seen. It's more like a fixed than a folder, and once you get it open, you'll think so, too. It is very hard to release that framelock. This is not a knife for casual, everyday carry and use.

Just ordered a Greco Falcon and it looks like a whole lot of folder for $50.
Any of the knives mentioned about will serve you well, but Spyderco Military is the one I carry almost everyday.

Buy a Swiss Army Knife for ~$25, Opinel for ~$10, plus something nice like Spyderco or Benchmade in ~$75 range. That will give you most bang for your buck!:)

spend a few extra and get a camillus cuda maxx!!!Awesome, razor sharp, lethal, beautiful and opens faster than an automatic

... if the Cuda Maxx is on sale again! My fault, I pre-ordered two when they came out ... no, you can't have one ...

Hey, I like martin j's thinking ... get a SAK for the toolkit or a Leatherman, like a Pulse ... an Opinel as a scary sharp beater ... and a tough folder for daily carry.

Amazing how far a hundred bucks can go. Or how fast ... :D

The Buck 110 from Pete's has got to be THE best bargain on the planet.
Where else can you buy a knife made to YOUR spec's and colors with
a lifetime warranty that's backed buy 110% service that you can actually
use everyday and it won't scare your mother.

Sure, its no one hand wonder ,but it will still be on the market and in the
hands of many owners long after the current knife craze dies. There simply
is no better knife to buy for your money. Heck , you could buy a plain 110
and have lots of change and still get a terrific knife to use and it still won't
scare your mom.

Such a deal!:D :D :D :D

Thanks for everyone help! All the knifes recommended are nice.
I'm still not 100 % sure.

The BM 710HS is starting to give me a good vibe every time I look at it. It is a bit out of my budget but not by much so it's no big deal.

A couple of general observations --

(1) Wait for a gun or knife show to come to town. You get to feel and fondle, get other peoples' advice and in person, and pay well under retail (sometimes below internet prices).

(2) Figure out what you want it for: EDC, SD, hard work, outdoors, etc. What you want depends on what you'll use it for.

Always remember that you can get a 4" VG-10 Endura for about $50.
