A VG-10 Spyderco Endura (or Delica if you like a smaller blade) and a Victorinox SAK.
A combo like that can't be beat!

Good luck,
Allen.

Benchmade Griptilian 550 (thumbhole) or 551 (thumbstud) in the $60.00 range from various on-line suppliers like Bayou LaFourche;

Opinel #6 or #8 Lux or Les Effiles with bubinga wood handles (scary sharp and very classy/pretty, too) in the $15.00 range from pizzini.at (forumite Thomas Pizzini);

Victorinox Pioneer or Soldier in the $20.00 range from various online sources (like pizzini.at or swiss-knife.com)

There's a pile of cutting and chores easily acomplished with that respectable set-up.

A very good pint has been made about handling a few knives
before you any knife /knives.

To those of use who have owned and used knives for a long time
we have all learned to ...pay attention... to what felt good in the hand
before we bought it. While it might sound crazy if your hand don't like
the knife you flat will not used it no matterhow good looking it is. don't
let anyone kid you......we all have our dresser drawer knives that look nice
but feel like crap in the hand which is why they are hole up in the dresser.

So myadvice is do what my Dad taught me pick several knives out then
lay them on a table. Now shut your eyes and handel each a few times.
After a bit you notice one that you keep coming back to. Keep your eyes
shut and carfully open it and close it. If all went well it was easy , if clumsy
move on to another knife. When you find thew style you like it will outshine
all the rest of the eye candy knive and be the one that somehow always winds
up in your pocket. THAT is your kind of knife.

Good hunting , mate

The Buck 110 is an"everybody"kind of knife but until you try it you won't know for sure.

I dunno, 9 out of my 12 knives in my collection were bought sight-unseen and all feel great, I got a funny way of telling what'll feel good just by lookin' at it :)

Lots of great knives in that price range and lower.
What are you planning to use it for? What are your local laws for blade length (if you worry about that sort of thing)?
