Who can argue that the Butaniku is not the biggest Busse blade ever, am I right? I got one of mine on Friday (I hope I have another coming in) and it is a beast. Since this is my normal wall hanger color scheme, I will not be chopping into anything with it. Sorry, I can't do it, nope, can't do it, I want to, but can't. BTW, mine was sharpened by Big Bad Beef, so the grinds are perfect.
Speaking of chopping, I know I just said that, a quick reminder to those who may be new to the katana world, these are slashing swords, not chopping. I don't have any tatami mats to slash up right now and beating up saplings with a katana is sacrilegious. I know this Infi is tough stuff, but I still prefer to treat this blade as history intended.
The balance of this blade is definitely forward by quite a bit, even when gripping the sword correctly, you can still feel the balance is point heavy. Not all katana's are supposed to be balanced slightly after the tsuba (guard), it's really a personal preference. Swords meant for practice cutting usually favor a tip heavy design. Regardless, the Butaniku has a very unique thickness and geometry compared to a traditional katana, so it is understandable that it doesn't feel exactly the same. The only fault I can give the sword on the handling portion is the lanyard hole. It shouldn't be there or the G10 should continue down and be ground even with the tang, with little to no curve. The pinky on your non-dominant hand should rest on the flat bottom of the tsuka (handle).
Honestly, I am on very little sleep, I have no idea what I am saying right now, so here are some pics:
This first one is the Butaniku sitting below a Bugei Peace Katana. Notice the unnecessary, shameless ESP plug at the bottom left:
Here is an image from the point side:
A nice comparison of the tsuka/handle/grip/whatever. Notice the curve difference in the traditional katana:
The above sword on this pic is a Shobu Zukuri wakizashi:
Here it is with an FNX Tactical and the big boy FN SCAR 17S (Heavy):
No gallery from me is complete without the tool that makes boys into men!! SHAKE IT!!
I hope you enjoyed this presentation. I can link these pics in a much higher res if need be, just let me know.
(And as I close all my posts that include images, nothing on here is for sale or implied as such)
