So, back before SofiBelle was born, I asked Wifey what she would want as a "birth" gift. She was adamant that she would want a full spa-day. So. being the good husband I am, I quietly set aside money each month until the baby was born so that I could treat her to a real nice spa-day at one of Miami's premier 5* spas. I was planning on really splurging, but when the time came around for her to enjoy her day, she told me that she'd rather I use the money to fix up the back yard, as our gazebo's "roof" was all tattered and torn from the storms down here, as well as our overgrown avocado tree.

Unbeknownst to us at the time, many of the spas in Miami have subscribed to a program called "Miami Spa Month," where many of the best spas in the city offer 99$ special treatments. Wifey looked around and found a couple spas that had treatments she wanted, so she set up appointments.

A little while back I gave somme shooting instruction to the cousin of a friend of mine. The cousin happens to work for Home Depot, so she was able to hook me up with a great price on a brand new 12x12 gazebo AND a three person swing set.

For less money than I had planned to spend on the Spa day alone, I was able to treat the wife to some relaxing treatments AND grab the gazebo and swing set. We even still have plenty of money left over for the landscaping.

So, today was the day I began prepping the back yard. I took down the old gazebo, and set to work chopping back that avocado tree.

Check out these lovelies:

Thanks to GustheFish (who is a gentleman amongst swine ;) ) I had a new chopper to work with a bit:

This thing is a beautiful knife, and the Euro handle is just FANTASTIC!!! The blade was of thinner stock than I expected, which makes the knife VERY fast in the hand. It feels more like a fighter than a chopper, but it handled the 1-4" circumference avocado branches without any problems. Too bad some of the others got jealous:

The Gifted Badger wanted to play, but it was just a little too small. The SFNOLE, however, was not deterred at all by the thick branches. This thing has REAL chopping power for a 7" blade. That sabre grind really does add some heft to the knife, making it blade heavy, but still fast enough to wield pretty quickly.

After these three came out, the little siblings wanted to play as well:

Here are some of my spoils for the day:

One of the things I love about Busse Knives is how well they clean up. These coatings are wonderful:

And here are my two ladies, the motivations for everything I do:

Thanks for reading/looking, brothers and sisters. Sorry about the grainy pix, as they are from my iPhone 3Gs.

I want to say again, thanks to Gus for being a real gentleman. He shipped me the Mojo on his own dime so I could see if it would be a winner for me before shipping him my side of the trade. You're a perfect example of why the Busse fam is so great, man.

Thanks again,

Jason

Great shots - love seeing a Mojo put to work. That and the BM-E are my two most lusted after big Busse's.

I put some serious thought into planting an avocado tree, but I've heard it takes a couple of years before they start producing fruit, and I plan to sell this house in two or three years.

Hey Gus, I sent you an email earlier today, brother. Check it when you get a chance.

Thanks for the comments, people.

Ummmm, those Avocado's look great!!!

Yep, she does look happy...great looking family Jason:thumbup:

Oh yeah, those Busse's looks great also, and thanks for the pics!

Nice work there, brother! I'm lusting after avocado now! ;)

That makes two of us!! I would love to have an avocado tree in my backyard! Gat....that Mojo is awesome bro. I'm gonna have to put that one on my list. Thanks for the pics, and congrats on the little one....you're a lucky man.

Thanks for all the kind words, people. I will think of you all as we tear into those avocados. :D

J, things are indeed progressing splendidly. All except for the fact that the job never ends. :(

The truly important jobs never do ... ;)

I hear ya, brother, I hear ya. We're going back to school in about two weeks, and Natalie is already having a VERY hard time accepting that. I wish she could stay home the whole year.

I just got my NRA trainer certs for a couple different curricula, so hopefully I can build myself a steady little business. Florida's a great place for training/CWL's.

The pics turned out just fine, great looking family.

Loven the blades as well, congrats on the score.

Now the avocados, I ate about 10 bucks worth tonight, good stuff. I wish they'd grow up here, suckers are spendy.

Thanks for sharing

One of the great things about SoFla; we get mangos, avocados, guavas, oranges, tamarinds, lychees, grapefruit, lemons, limes, yucca, malanga, banana, plantain, starfruit, and others I'm sure I'm forgetting. If I could ship 'em to people, I would.

Kenny, Robin...that DEFINITELY goes for you two.
