Gib Guignard and Chuck Burrows are making me a frontier style bowie and I am thrilled with how things are coming so far.

Gib forged the 8 1/2" 5160 blade. He then gound to final shape and did the heat treat. He also made and fit the guard and prepared the stag crown for use as the handle material. At that point he sent the knife to Chuck. Chuck has done the filework and has etched the blade. He will also be doing all the leatherwork including sheath and a studded sleeve fitting for the handle. The sheath and butt end of the stag crown will be being fitted with a silver Spanish coin cabochon.

I am going to give you guys a look at this knife and sheath as they are being made. Hopefully you will get some enjoyment out of this process.

The next three posts will show you how things have come along so far.

Now after the blade has been etched.

As I get more images of the knife as it makes its way to completion, I will post them.

That is some top shelf talent you've got on that project!
And...
It's looking great so far. (we really need a green with envy smiley)
I'd like to see more 'in progress" pix. Makes me want to make one :)

Excellent!!! I love watching a work in progress and here we go.

Gib and Chuck are two fantastic artists. This particular style is what they both do so very well. Keith, I'm impressed--you see hundreds of top maker's work and you have settled into working with Gib and Chuck. That says something clearly about them. :)

Looking forward to more. This is going to be sweet.

Keith,
Wow! That knife is going to be sooooo nice looking!

Edited: spelling

Keith,
Will the handle have a ferrule or spacer or is it going to be the full crown stag?

Whatever, that's awesome.

I am gonna have to buy one of these. I can't afford the knife and sheath together, though . Are they still taking orders for them and is there a long wait time? I would just e-mail the makers and ask them, but if I do, I know I'll just end up placing an order within the next few days. That is the LAST thing i need to do :D

I'm with Coop - I love seeing a project unfold step by step. This one is progressing nicely - the end result will surely be something special. Thanks for sharing the pics.

RWS,no ferrule. It is going to have a studded leather sleeve like on Cactus Rose 2.

dylan_d, I am sure they are taking orders and delivery time is probably around two months.

Keith-

Really cool thread you started. I really enjoy seeing threads like this one unfold. I really didn't care for the aged pieces in the past, but this particular style that they're making really has character. I love the leather collar/sleeve...very striking touch.

Thanks for posting it.

Darby, you dog, what are you doing here?!?!?!?!?! :p

Great looking piece Keith, real character and strength of purpose in its appearance. Will Father Christmas get it to you by the 25th?

Howdy this is Chuck - Gib and I appreciate your comments - these knives are our passion and our fun ones.:D

Will be a couple of weeks before I get back onto this one - got lots of leather to get out the door. Then it's finish up the knife and then comes the sheath. Keith and I have already decided not to do any shipping until after the holidays anyway. As I go along I will be sending more photos of the progress on to Keith.

The sheath will be similar in style, but not the same deco, to the one for CR #2:

Looking at the picture of this knife makes my mouth water. Or, maybe it's the smell of hot apple pie and turkey baking in the kitchen that's making my mouth water.
Nope! It's the knife.:)

Very cool getting to see the process as it goes Keith..., thanks. :) That's gonna be some piece.., I really like the guard also, can't wait to see more...
