My Cactus Rose knife.

Very awesome Keith - one of nicest period pieces have seen - good choice in knife & makers - will be one to pass down to next generation.

Keith, it looks really nice. I am having a knife made by Craig Camerer right now and he is sending me pics all along the way too. Really nice to have a record of the process. Always look back on it that way.

Here are some more pictures of my Cactus Rose bowie.

The crown antler is attached and the Mexican silver concho buttcap is mounted. The next phase will be the leather wrap and tacks.

Dylan-
Decided to make some minor changes int he next phase and I'm waiting for some supplies form Gib - I should have some pics probably the middle of next week.

Finished knife. The rawhide is American bison and the tacks/studs are wrought iron.

I am exceptionally pleased with how this knife turned out. Now all that is left is the sheath and I can hardly waut to see how that will look.

Damn fine work, I gotta get one. One question: Is the finish on the blade smooth, or is it rough like it looks?

Dylan - the forge finish along the spine isn't exactly "rough" although I guess you could say there are peaks and valleys, but they are rounded and smooth.
The ground areas feel like an etched Damascus blade to me anyway- smooth yet you can feel the texture. Kind of hard to explain really....

The etch on the ground areas can be controlled to give a less aged look here's a toothpick I did a while back with a less aged blade: It's a 5160 blade with a hand rubbed 400(or 600?) finish done with two or three? - 5 minutes dips rather than a single 10-15 minute dip:

Bravo! Great stuff. Love that bowie. Keith, you must be tickled pink.

Cheers,

Roger

Here are the materials that will be used to make my sheath.

Below is how Chuck described the things you see in the above photo.

PHASE TWO: The Sheath - parts to be included are: brain/smoke tan buckskin (the background), top left buffalo hair and rawhide, copper beads in two sizes, tin cone dangles, 25 Peso Mexican Coin concho, hawk bells, iron tacks, and last but not least glass pony beads. Of course once started things may change..........

That is just awesome!!!! I just recently traded for one of Gib's Bowies and now I can't wait to get it. Nowhere as ornate as this one. This combo is quite simply works of art.

Some pictures of the progress being made on the sheath.

This picture shows the vegtan leather core with the real sinew thread and buffalo rawhide pices for the face and back.

The second and third images are the front and back after sewing on the rawhide, painting on a design, and beginning the ageing.

The next step will be to add the tacks and the cuff around the throat. The finished sheath will have beadwork, the concho, buffalo hair dangles, and more.

I got some exciting news today. Chuck has shipped me my knife. I should have it next week. I will post more pictures of the finished knife and sheath tonight or tomorrow.

Hello, Keith

I wonder how excited you should be about this knife right now.
Please resist the temptation of just grabbing the package from the mailman and running back home to open it- sign the papers and say "thanks". :D
As my old aunt says, "the best of a party is waiting for it to happen".

Hi Ivan. I'm very excited indeed.

I want to check and see if I am going to be able to post the pictures I received, so this post will be a test.

I don't know what the rest of your collection looks like, Keith...but this bowie should take the top shelf! Beautiful! And to think that at one time I didn't think you liked bowies!
