My Chitlangi has just the slightest bit of play, barely noticeable, right around the bolster area, that i think developed after i'd done some wood chopping with it. I know it's not a big deal, i know this Chitlangi and all HI stuff is basically indestructible, but was wondering if their's a way to tighten that up.

In my experience, play in the sheath is normal. Play in the bolster is not. I'd email Yangdu and see what she has to say.

You guys wouldn't consider fixing it with some epoxy? As far as I can tell, the bolster is hammered out brass that fits over the wood. Unless it's like other bolsters where it is pressed up against the flat protrusions on either side of the tang where the blade starts. The whole assemble being of course, held in place by the tang being peened. I ask just in case I ever run into this too.

I seriously doubt you will ever run into that, so don't worry. Let me put it this way, fixing the issue is not out of the question if possible, and furthermore, I would have bought the same knife even with that issue and fixed it had it been a blem. Being that it came in perfect condition and that it is brandy new, I'd be equally as hesitant to fix it as I would be to send it back no questions asked. That's why I say I would absolutely contact Yangdu directly. She will take care of you one way or another.

In the past and with a proper search one might find the thread, someone mentioned putting the handle in a plastic bag and boiling it till the laha gets soft and flows. I'm not sure how one would know that since all the laha is inside and not exposed but then just taking it out and letting it cool down.
The theory being that the laha would flow once again and fill the voids causing the slight looseness.

I'd reach out to Karda and certainly to Yangdu before you did that. She may just prefer to exchange or she may say try it, if it don't work then I'll exchange it.

Personally I'd go to extreme measures myself to fix before I'd send anything back but Yangdu is a believer in keeping every body happy, happy, happy. So your covered either way.

Thanks for the advice, I'll contact Yangdu. And as you said, this one isn't a blem, it's by Tirtha and was perfect when I got it. I don't think it was a DOTD, I think my brother ordered it from the website but I don't remember. He gave it to me after he moved to an Orthodox Christian Monastery. So I gave him an HI micro mini bowie, something he can have over there, the Abbot probably won't give him a hard time about that, but probably would about a 17.5" khuk. Between my brother and I and a friend of ours, we've collected a good little number of HI blades and we love them all, best blades ever. Anyways, thanks again for the comments.

Likely the laha has broken loose. Yangdu will take care of you no problem. Email her and tell her about it.

That picture is not of Bawanna, but of Yangdu's father Pala, aka Kami Sherpa, holding a Yek Chirra that was bought by Bawanna. Here is a link to a recent thread where a very talented forum member turned that picture into a beautiful portrait.

Every once in a while a cool picture like that pops up, but if I remember correctly, Bawanna actually requested a pic of Pala holding his new blade. I was lucky enough to score a pic of him inspecting my Tibetan Short Sword, and let me say that I am considering having it blown up and printed or turned into a portrait as well.

Oh ok, thankyou for the clerification, ofcourse I've seen pictures of Pala so I was confused. Thanks for all the replies. She told me it could be excess brass btw, and to try and sand it down lightly, but I'm still a little confused about that process. I'll let you all know how it goes.

All correct except I believe it's tek Chirra not a Yek.
I think people get me and Pala mixed up all the time, both strikingly handsome fellas. I do believe he has a slight edge on me in the handsome department.

Hey I got Santa Claus to model my Katana! How cool is that?

Actually that might be yours Bawanna? Not sure? Ours are almost identical.

I don't think there were ever any pictures of anyone holding mine, just a picture of the sword itself.
Probably yours but we'll probably never know.

Actually that one is yours. Check out the heart shaped inlays. The one on the left side closest to the pommel points down. Mine points up. Our inlays are reversed of each other. She did have a few others after that tho. Remember Sawgrass got one and then another old stock one showed up again later. I forget who grabbed that one?

Maybe so. No matter, it's a good picture and Randy is a good guy. Didn't have the whiskers last time I laid eyes on him.

I NEED to get me one of those silver sheathed beauties. It makes my standard Kumar Everest look dull by comparison.

I don't understand how sanding the bolster would make the play go away. Any ideas?

I suspect that there was a miscommunication about the nature of the problem, or the nature of the solution.

The original post says, "My Chitlangi has just the slightest bit of play, barely noticeable, right around the bolster area." The use of the word "play" could be misunderstood by someone for whom English is a second language.

For example, if you were to substitute "laha" for "play" then the recommendation to sand the bolster would make perfect sense.
