My collection! (and introduction)

I just picked up this knife at an antique shop because the sleek design was calling out to me.

Nice! I was almost 19 and a student at CSU Fresno when I discovered Bladeforums. Now I make the darn things!

I was given this as a birthday gift this year. Nice little knife; when I first got it I wasn't sure what I thought but I find myself grabbing it surprisingly often.

Ooh, and exciting news! It seems my Mnandi has arrived! I'll post pictures tomorrow :love-struck:

Welcome to the forums!

I'm turning 23 soon... there are lots of younger collectors hanging around here, I'm sure you'll meet many.

Nice collection, you have good taste. Have you tried out the waved Delica in place of your Endura? Might be more your speed if you're finding the Endura too large.

Cool to see people around my age actually as interested in knives as I am. I went to school for Mechanical Engineering and always managed to relate everything back to knives -- there's always a way. I've been collecting since I was a kid, but my tastes have changed dramatically, and just last month I hit 200 knives even in my collection. From the knives you listed it's cool that you're checking out some different types of knives. Probably 3/4 of my collection is folders. Benchmade has done some serious damage to my wallet. I also lurked around on this site for years before joining. I found when I was going to school I got pretty into metallurgy and material science in general, and now I'm making my own fixed blades when I've got some down time. I find that a lot of the guys on here are into lots of things like knives, cars, motorcycles, things that go boom and hell I've even seen people asking for help with engineering problems, there's plenty of us on here. Welcome

@Jmunson1291:

Contradictory statements, but I like where it's going... don't forget to post pics! ;)

@HatchettJack: Cool, thanks for the suggestion! I feel like I've seen the Osborne before, but I can't quite recall where...

@Riley12: Looks like a good EDC collection! I like the black and white photo a lot... Is that one of the Emersons?

@HunterJRG: Electrical Engineering, focus on "Signals, Systems, Communications and Control".

The black and white one is a SOG Aegis that I put a benchmade clip onto.

Only knife in my collection at the moment haha. A bit dirty and in need of a sharpening.
Waiting for one to come back from repair and just sold my ZT. Have another on order.

@link2derek: You have a good point about rotation, except I'm not sure how I'll get myself to give things up... ;)
Also, awesome Northwoods river knife. I've talked with Derrick online, seems like a great guy and even ordered a Mnandi from their shop! Always nice to hear a vote of confidence on their authenticity, however. You can never be too careful with a large online purchase.

Derrick is a great guy, and I trust him 110%. The biggest knife order I have ever placed (for around $5,000 a few years ago for a couple dozen Northwoods Ivory Whittlers) was with Derrick and KSF. He came through for me without a hitch, and I can't recommend him (and Northwoods) enough!

We'll be seein' ya' on the Forum...!

I'm 19 and quite jealous of that collection my carry rotation is a delica, a code steel code 4, sak alox electrician, and a case solddie Jr

@Charlie Mike: Cool! I haven't been particularly called to forgery so far, but I do like leatherwork and have been interested in learning about sheath-making. Are you the guy who runs Charlie Mike Solutions?

@WillardCorpse: I do like the Delica. It seems Spyderco has a several good smaller knives, I'll have to do a "compare and contrast"...

@knifedude802: Wow, congrats on reaching 200! And here I haven't even hit 20 (knives or years, now that I think about it) :p

@LaneMeyer: Well, one knife goes infinitely further than none. Surely this site will help you find more, if that's what you wish!

@link2derek: Great! I'm not really familiar with Northwoods, but I was very impressed with KSF for their fast service and delivery of a perfect Mnandi (which I will be posting about momentarily!).

@savage99: Yeah, it can take a while to save up, and longer depending on your situation. I am very lucky that my parents are paying my college tuition and housing so that what I do earn is just for books, supplies and spending money.

My Chris Reeve Snakewood Mnandi finally arrived, and it's absolutely beautiful! The inlays are excellently done; I love the blade shape, the pocket clip, the smooth and solid feel... I could go on but I'm sure you've heard it all before. I was pleasantly surprised that it was easy for me to open one-handed: maybe it's just that I have longer fingernails, but I had no trouble with the supposed "annoying new nail nick". Anyway, this one's definitely a keeper.

OK, picture time! Just a quick outdoor shoot, but I think you'll get the essence...

And that concludes my collection! Hope you enjoyed them as much as I liked photographing 'em and meeting all of you!

No, but I have been doing leather for 23 years.

You guys are lucky to have so many knives, I must admit I get kind of jealous. Good stuff gals/guys

I decided to only get one grail knife since I wouldn't be able to spend money on multiple knives. Also because I am a sucker for quality, one of a kind designs, which correlates to being expensive :(. I'll post pics once it gets back from being fixed up.

@Blues Bender
Your collection is one of the best. That 2nd knife in your post, what style of carbon fiber is that called? It looks terrific, but I've only seen one other knife with that type of handle. The black swirls

Nice pickup! I've been on the search for a Mnandi with box elder burl, but the wood must have strong red hues (rare). I'm picky:D

Thanks man!

It's marbled carbon fiber, or sometimes called black pearl carbon fiber. That's a knife from Jim Dunlap you saw, I sent him the CF from my personal stash:D That is the first knife in MCF he has ever made.

Welcome! Im 18, and wish I had a collection like yours! Too many hobbies means too little money :D. I've got all slipjoints, but am looking to buy a grip. We'd love to see your knives over on the porch AKA the traditional subforum, very nice place over there!

Here's a quick cell phone pic of what I've got on me right now.

Before anyone asks I'm listening to Fragile by Yes.

Nice Mnandi, RedwoodGirl and a great start to your collection, for sure! Here's mine (old pic from back in the day when this model was still relatively new):

Welcome San. LOVE that whittler. You do have a nice start on your collection. Look forwards to more pics.

Here's my Nealy Aikuchi, 1 of the first 7 knives he took to the first show he went to (the first ECCKS) when he went full time , he had only made 500 knives between playing music and takin' pictures. I stop into his shop when I'm on his street to visit and still catch him at the local shows. Last time I saw him was at the Easton PA knife show a couple of months ago and as usual I had my Aikuchi with me and I pulled it out.

He was so thrilled to see such a pivotal knife in his career still being carried by the original owner he started taking pics with his phone, he even called some people over to show them how he used to make 'em in the old days when he could take more time. Distal tapered tang for balance, dovetailed bolsters with pinned micarta scales.

I modified it after I bought it by putting an index mark in the bolster and used the index mark to also make the kydex MCS system more secure. He was happy with what I did, we talked shop for a while and I had to go, leaving with the promise to stop by his shop in the spring and bring the Aikuchi so he can take more professional pics of it. He even offered to buy it back at one point, I settled for him making a new kydex sheath sheath with a dimple for the index mark I ground in.

This is the old sheath I haven't swapped the ballchain yet.
