My collection of Neeman/Autine tools

hey, I'm about to pull the trigger on an order with Autine. I was wondering if you could give me your opinion. Between the goosewing small vs large. Fantastic collection by the way

Thanks! I prefer the large one, overweight is more effective when hewing.

Beautiful collection Alex...Where abouts in quebec are you? I'm about 40km from the onario/quebec border, used to do a lot of down hill mountain biking over there.
Like Memphis, said please post your home progress. It is my dream to build a retirement cabin someday.

Also what was the shipping costs like to Canada?

Have you guys noticed the huge jump in prices across the board in both Autine and JNT? I realize they're trying to drop demand a little, but come on, $300 for a carpenter's axe? $450 for a double bit axe? Is anybody willing to pay that? I own a couple of tools from JNT, and they're great, but not for that price.

Thank you! I live in the Valcourt area ( where the ski-doo was invented). The shipping cost was around 75$US. I will post updated on my house project when I get it started.

I saw that on both website...I paid 150$ for my bearded broad axe and 300$ for my goosewing axe in the beginning of 2012, the price list have increased rapidly.I can not complain too much because John(Autine) made me still very good price every time I place an order.Make group buy and probably you'll get a discount...

I guess I'll just have to give it some time and see if those prices cool down at all. Till then, my Granfors can do the job.

Beautiful Goosewing! I know you have a RH goose from Autine, what made you want a Lefty? Just to complete the set?

My RH goose from Autine is a small one, this one is bigger, like the RH JNT, it have a 14" blade and weight around 7 lbs. I tried it on a 34' pine log and it work awesome, I did a 6"x8"! I just wanted to complete the set like you said so I dont have to rotate the log many times.

I also ordered an old Austrian goosewing on ebay I will post it when I will receive it.

Excellent! That's a stout log. Do you prefer swinging the large goosewings or the smaller? I have always preferred smaller, lighter broad axes.

When hewing with single bevel axes like goosewing, I prefer the large and heavy ones, the weight is very effective and leaves a smooth surface. Most of the time I use the double bevel bearded broad axe for removing the waste and I use the goosewing for the final hewing ( I use a chainsaw for the scoring process ;) )

Funny you mention using a chainsaw to score the log. I've taken to using a bow saw when I want to be very precise with the depth of the score. I have to tell you though, I strongly prefer a good double bevel axe. I can get a beautiful surface with about the same amount of work. Hence my interest in the Neeman Baltic Broad Axe. Maybe one of these days!
