Thanks for all the nice complements to those that gave them.
(you all get what I do with this, have fun.).
WARNING THIS NEXT PART IS KIND OF A RANT !!!!
To all the "wow look at the edge damage!!!" comments;.... are you guys being serious ???!!!
I mean I was taking the edge of a sharpened knife & pounding it to the corner of seriously
3/8" of folded steel !!!! on the corner, I am a big guy & believe me I was swinging with all I had into this.
I expected nothing less than some crushing of the edge.
Although some may think that they are light sabers an can go through anything un-scathed,(which pretty much they are) the reality is if you chop something harder than the steel that the knife is made of; or slam a super thin edge into a sharp corner of almost
3/8" of steel you Are most
CERTAINLY GOING TO DAMAGE THE EDGE !!!!! I am not a physicist but I think that is physics ???
Now as far as the edge,
First, boy oh boy, you had to really study, only the pictures of the edge to see the damage, & I purposely did not post pics of close ups of the edge to try an avoid all the "Wow look at the edge damage!!!" comments, because again it really should be expected considering the abuse I put this poor NMFBM through.
Second the edge was at most 1/8" to 1/16" wide, or deep, meaning the actual edge or final sharpened part. and that really was all that was crushed, again completely expected for what I was doing slamming a super thin piece of steel into 3/8" of steel on the corner, I was very very impressed that the crushing only went as far as the crinkle coat.any lesser knife would have fractured or tore with what I was doing. I was twisting flexing & everything, not keeping it straight & avoiding any lateral torque at all. I was looking at it as if I was trapped in a metal box & had to cut my way out.
Now as far as repair, I have learned from the times I chopped steel & hardened steel with my sword that the edge will be crushed, (never chopped a corner like this though, & it handled it better than I thought actually) so rather than trying to take the time & re-align the steel I really just sharpen the edge the best I can & go from there, I do not try to make it like new or sharpen the edge out to perfect again. It is a working knife & is a chopper, so if I need to do fine work where I need a perfect edge the whole length, I will use a smaller busse, & if I need to I will use some of the edge that was not crushed. Part of the edge still shaved hair !!!
Hope all of this makes sense and I do not come off as too much of an A-hole, but really all the post lately I have seen, of
" I chopped a brick/rock/hard oak/or anything else with my busse & although it did not break it, the edge got damaged, so lets take macro pics of the tiny edge damage & gripe & complain about it, because even though Jerry will make it right, I have to complain because I used my knife & it is not new any more"
have kind of wore thin.
I was having Fun & really seeing what my knife could do, I am very very happy !!!!
RANT OFF
They are knives people & if you beat the crap out of them they will get dull & you may have to repair or sharpen them, but
I have never broken one.
Thank you Jerry for making a great product that I know I can bet my survival on, you are the man, & I will always Buy Busse !!!!
Love you guys, hope you all understand.
